Should the hydraulic cylinders that hold up the engine glass have enough tension to hold up the engine glass without being supported by the engine cover? Thanks.

needless to say.. thats what they are for!

Yes.

I find that they need replacement every six years or so.

That would be nice. I need to replace all four of mine.

You can't afford to spend a hundred bucks on your car once every six years, for the part that is the precise size and shape and is designed to be used in the environmental conditions of a car?

The incredible engineering that went into the NSX notwithstanding, I seriously doubt that the engineers didn't just pick some cylinders out of a catalog. These types of items are fairly standard- no reason for them to reinvent the wheel (or the cylinders, in this case).

I think its not because of that, but by comparison, the normal struts cost way less and its basically the same thing.

I replaced mine. I searched and searched, and the generic companies like Armstrong don't make a replacement part for the rear window one (I wasn't searching for the trunk so I don't know on that part). I then searched for an OEM part, and the best price I found when I bought mine was from http://www.ahmotor.com/ and their price included the new little ball assy, some places I heard sell that separately.

I agree. Spend the money to get OEM.

You might be able to save $50 but you might have to spend 6 hours searching and determining the specs.

All depends how you value your time I suppose.

Geez...

I was just poking out a question hoping someone new of an identical part from Showa or something. When I go to GI Joes I see a wall of them, none the right size.

I think we all should be able to "afford" the few hundred dollars to buy the parts, but if there is a cost saving solution it leaves more money for forced induction, wheels, etc.

I am in on the trunk strut group buy. Has anyone replaced them at the dealer recently? How much is the average cost for 2 struts and labor to replace them. My trunk stays up in warmer weather, but as it gets colder at night, the struts don't seem to work.

same here i need all four replaced trunk/glass hatch.....ahh lets get a package with the balls included.

I needed to replace all four of my struts also. I ordered them from Ray Laks Acura. The glass struts come with the ball built in. The trunk strut balls need to be ordered separately. From what I've heard it's worth the extra $9 each. The parts totalled $214. I currently have my NSX in the dealer for some service so I decided to let them install the struts for me. They estimated 1/2 hour per pair. I'll let you know what the actual labor was tomorrow. Scott

Im in, I need the truck struts, but just havent gotten around to it. I saw them on the Dali Website and didn't understand with balls/without balls. Are they stronger with balls?!

Ordering them with or without just depends if you think you can reuse the old ones - the balls do not wear out - they are just hard to get off.

From some of the threads here you might get the impression that NSX drivers were a pennie pinching lot.

We have them with or without balls in stock;

trunk struts: http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=788

hatch struts: http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=768

and before you ask me for a better price on them, please note that all OE parts listed on the site are sold at my cost + shipping.

PS: it might take 20 minutes total to install BOTH pairs of them, that dealer that quoted you 30 minutes each must have a minimum labor charge.

I just did all 4 of mine a couple months ago with the parts from Dali. I also got the paint pen to paint my balls (I mean THE balls) before putting them on.

If you own a wrench don't bother to pay the dealer, the drove over will take longer.

If you are going to do this one yourself, you might want to arrange the services of an assistant to hold up the body pieces while you're removing/installing the struts. Just a suggestion...

Or just use locking pliers (or a prop bar)..

I ordered the trunk struts from Mark (Dali Racing) at approx 9PM on Tuesday, March 11th. I paid via PayPal. All my emails to Mark were promptly returned. I came home from work a little early today, Friday March 14th, and lo and behold the struts were at my door. I laid out the required tools and began the installation. Shockingly, it only took me 10 minutes to replace them. I did not paint the little balls, as they look just as good silver. I am totally satisfied with the struts and the way I was treated by Mark. I will be a customer as long as this high level of professionalism continues. Thanks Mark!
