Engine compartment lid mod..........

Hey guys,

I'm pondering the idea of trimming out the engine compartment lid and installing some stainless steal wire mesh for some visuals of the engine through the rear glass. I know some guys have completely removed the lid to expose the engine, but I think it would look cleaner with a stainless mesh (screen/shield) over it.

Question I have is, what's your take on the heat factor not having the stock OEM lid covering the engine. Have you heard of any problems with the heat of the engine screwing up the defrosting wires, rubber around the rear window or anything else.

Appreciate your 2 cents.

Only one cent, but here we go:

Pro's:
- Cool looks
- You gotta mod the engine-looks now

Con's:
- Glass hatch will slam down, there is no air trapped insided anymore. When closed, its oke, unlike removing it completely, where it leaves some play when closed.
- Cold mornings will give plenty of vapor on the inside of the glass, much more then with the proper lid.
- If you drive through rain, the alternator belt will throw water up against the glass, and worse, if you got metal wire mesh installed, it will cause it to corrode (i could not find aluminium wire mesh that size overhere).
- If you wanna do it yourself *PROPERLY*, like *OEM LOOK*, it costs a lot of time, and also quiet a few quid on strong glue and proper painting.

If i had to do it all again, i would go out and buy one of Chris (sos), then you also get some CF.
If you insist on doing one yourself, search around here, and there are quiet a few who did theires, and if i remember correctly, there should be plenty pics of diy's.

Respectfully disagree with several points.
Cold mornings won't have any affect at all.
Never had any problems with water being kicked up by alt. belt. Remember, there is a cover for that belt at the alternator.
Lots of others have done very similar things for little $$$.

Cons

1. Your white milk bottle of coolant will turn yellow.
2. If you ran your car very fast on wet road water will splash on the hatch just above the alternator.
3. Foggy rear hatch but can easily condense if you turn on the defroster button next to the wiper handle.

Pros

1. People will now know that NSX engine is behind the driver.
2. You can show off your clean engine compartment especially if the valve cover are painted. A plus for rear mid engine that front engine cannot do.
3. Any leakage can be notice right away. Coolant hose burst on my car and I notice it right away from the spraying of coolant onto the glass hatch.
4. You can listen to the harmony song of your engine better.
