eating too much gas

I have installed the taitec JGTC parallel exhaust and have been running it for 1 month now and I LOVE it...but the problem that Im having with it is that the gas is not as efficient....is there a way that I can fix this? or is this just normal? I know its less restrictive...but I hope its not this bad....and I know that my foot isnt that heavy but occasionally do rip it.

Oh by the way......Dotn buy GAS from SHELL.....they ruin your gas gauge......

My car likes to drink gas like water when I drive it a lot (not fast.) However, it is also thristy when I bring it up high on the RPM.

Get some kind of engine-cleaners for your car. It will improve the problem somewhat.

Fuel efficiency varies dramatically based on driving habits. As an experiment, try shifting at 5,000 versus 3,000. You'll notice a dramatic difference; when I did this, the spread was 2-3mpg. Other factors apply as well (highway, stop-and-go, etc.)...

Are you sure you're not just revving it higher because of the new exhaust?

I have not noticed any difference in gas mileage with my JGTC Parallel exhaust. I do notice that I now tend to keep the car in 2nd gear between the 3000-5000rpm range to enjoy the exhaust note. This by itself does lend to a decrease in fuel economy, but it's not due to the exhaust itself.

BTW, doesn't it sound great!

So your saying if I shift at 5000 rpm I should get better mileage.....I thought shifting at low revs would save me gas...so I was shifting at 3500 to 4000....sometimes even at 3000

No, I think he meant shifting at 5,000rpm will kill your gas mileage comare to shifting at 3,00rpm.

NSX/MR2 is understanding me correctly. Shifting at lower points = higher gas mileage.

Having said this, what kind of mileage *are* you getting? There's an old thread that discusses this issue at length. You can compare your mpg to other members. Maybe your mpg is not out of spec afterall.

The FAQ says the 3.2 liter examples are rater 17/24. The NSX isn't a gas guzzler... but by today's standards, there are many other cars that are more fuel efficient including the Corvette (which I think gets 18/28... not sure if I remembered correctly).

Interesting....After I installed my JGTC I noticed a dramatic increase in fuel mileage (when driven the same way as stock).. Of course, with the JGTC, I have a hard time driving in the low rev range!

Ditto for me, I get the same gas mileage before and after my JGTC

Ha.....That is soooo true. An ex-girlfriend of mine was a high school science teacher who wanted to get one of those things. I always messed with her saying that there was never going to be an acceptable form of fuel besides dino oil for me. She also really hated my Mustang which gets 5-7mpg.

To funny Black&Tan. :D

What a moronic statement!! Just tell me, how in the world will one brand of gasoline ruin a gas gauge but not a different brand of gasoline?

Its true....Even my mechanic and guys at the track that we track with swear by this....I didnt listen to them and so I went to fill up there once....and voila...guage messed up...fill it and it still doesnt go to full (not as accurate). Now Im thinking that this messed up guage is giving me the false sense that my car is eating too much gas. I usually fill up sunoco 94 octane this also has 10%ethonol (did I spell that right). Im not a gas guru but from what just happened, I can be a believer of that statement.

You don't even have to look at the gauge to calculate fuel economy, Go fill up full, drive til you get the empty indicator, look how many miles it was on your odometer, and see how many gallons you gassed up. Odometer Miles/Gallons consumed...

Funny - many folks I know think Shell is the BEST gasoline. I've run it (and Exxon and Texaco) many times and NEVER experienced any problems in ANY car. I simply don't believe there is enough difference in the additives of any gasoline to cause "damage" to a gas gauge.

OMG absolutely true..Being an engineering student, all my teachers can't stop raving about how "cool" the Prius is:rolleyes: *sigh* Teachers:rolleyes: :D

prius:rolleyes:

Sure, they're science marvels but sheesh
