I know that there have been several threads that discussed the proper ways of driving NSX in order to maximize the life of the clutch (reducing clutch wear). Since pictures or media sources like videos can demonstrate those techniques even better than words, here they are: I, a beginner driver, found them to be extremely useful.

The instructor put lots of effort putting together these lessons, and I hope that you find them useful!

P.S. These videos were taped and instructed in M5, but I believe that they are applicable to NSX as well.

Hey does anyone feel like they can do me a favor for me.

I would like the videos, but realy it would take me about 10 hours to download everything. Also since I'm going to start drivers ed and begin to get more experience, I would like to study these clips so I can learn how to shift in manual and let me know a little more on the art of shifting.

So I was wandering if anyone who has a cd burner and already has these clips, can send me a disk with the clips through the mail. I don't know if a CD can be sent through the mailing system but It would definitely be more quicker for me and less aggrivating for my family since I have to use my phone line to get online.

while approaching a stop light

is it ok for the trans to down shift at the right speed, and apply no gas and then braking to a stop??
i heard its safer to down shift in bad weather, then just putting it to neutral and braking?

I don't see a problem with down shifting to slow the car down but again I have very limited knowledge on the mechanics of a car. But in bad weather like snow it's safer because down shifting slows the speed of the car yet still lets the wheel roll rather than stopping the wheel with a brake thus providing a greater chance to skid/lose traction...
 
Most experts advise using the brakes to stop the car, and not engine compression (by downshifting). The brakes are designed for this; the drivetrain is not.

This is even more true on wet or icy roads, when a downshift can upset the balance of the car and break traction. Brakes are much easier to modulate, to ease on smoothly - which most drivers in northern areas are well aware of.

Use your brakes to slow the car down, not downshifting.

I have used downshifting to slow the car down, but only when there is a problem with the brakes, like driving home on cracked rotors (been there, done that).

I heard this question on Click and Clack once and they suggested comparing the price of brake pads to the price of a transmission.

Their bottom line - use what was designed for slowing down the car - brakes!
