I was just wondering if rock chips bother you guys as much as they do me?? I mean I have gotten a lot better but they still bother me when I notice them. My NSX is a 92 and still original paint and I want to get the front cap and front fenders repainted and I am wondering if it is worth it?? Do you all feel this way about your cars and how to you cope???

Yes, I hate rock chips so much, that I quit driving my NSX. A rock chip is an automotive fact of life. Surely you have had a pimple once or twice in your lifetime, no? Ain't nothing perfect in this world.

I hate rock chips, but they are a fact of life. Nothing lasts forever, enjoy your car rather than let it sit. When I got the Lotus repainted it had almost no paint below the bumper. The NSX paint seems to hold up very well and be quite chip resistant...way better than my Integra which looks like someone fired a sandblaster at it. Put some miles on it, get a bra for it if the chips really make you crazy, but at the end of the day you will still get chips where the bra ends. With its fairly low height, I bet the NSX can even get a few at the leading edge of the roof. Be happy!!! It won't rust!

of course it bothers us. it even get in to my trunk and my roof.. its nothing you can avoid. you shouldn't worry about it unless yo are plannin on selling the car or making a show car.

bra would minimize it but won't stop it.

Doesn't bother me. In fact, I view it as "Badge of Courage." I rather like the fact that rock chips show the car is actually driven and, to be very frank, I kinda respect the sports cars and drivers more when I see a few rock chips.

I like to keep my car looking great. But I tolerate rock chips, rather than obsessing over them. Whenever I get one that is 2-3 mm or larger in size, I use touch-up paint to fill them in. That's what touch-up paint is for. Can you see them? Sure, if you look up close. But the front end of my car has chips consistent with a car that has 53K miles on it.

If I got the front clip painted, all the chips would be gone - until I drove home and continued driving it, at which point the process of accumulating chips would just start all over again. So I leave it alone.

If you live in VA, MD or DC area, there is a company called VTI, Inc. that has a new patented way of getting rid of your rock chips without repainting. I did it on my BMW and my NSX. Came out great. Their contact info is

I'm not sure how many members here actually have this protectant. Guys?

There are several reports on it in this topic.

You can find out more about the 3M version, including a locator for local installers, here.

My 97 red/tan probably could set a record for rock chips. The front is pelted with them, there are plenty on the side mirrors, and even rock chips on the trailing edge of the hood just before the windshield wipers. What to do?.....

I could repaint the car then wrap it in the 3M clear bra, and maybe i'll do that one day. But for now, i'll just keep it very clean and a fresh coat of zaino on it. Heck the paint still looks better than 99% of the cars out there.
