Different exhaust flanges?

Are there different amount of holes on the flanges for an exhaust? I bought a used HKS exhaust for a supposedly made for an 97 and up NSX and it probably is for a 97. My car is a 97 with a production date of 1/97. My car when placed on the lift shows only 2 bolt holes on all the flanges connecting exhaust. The guy that I bought the exhaust from said his car's production date is pre 97 like late 96? He told me he had a 97 Spa Yellow that the exhaust was in. The HKS exhaust has 3 bolt holes on all the flanges. I had my car and the exhaust ready to put in at Don Lam's - Hilltop Service when he notice the difference in bolt pattern. My question is, are there different flanges/bolt patterns for different years in production for a 97 and up NSX? Any help or explanation would be great.
