Daily Drivers

Mine was my daily all summer.

Parked it everywhere, including busy streets right outside bars and stuff.

I figure if it can survive the Safeway parking lot, it's good to go.

I hope I can sell this Galant soon and get my Jeep so I have something fun for the winter and rainy days. I don't mind driving the NSX in the rain, but I despise washing cars, so if it can be avoided, I will.

It seems like quite a few NSX owners do not like driving their NSX in the rain. Is that because it is not safe to drive in the rain? Or is it just to keep the car clean?

Wow, well it definitely seems like those who use their NSX's as daily drivers are enjoying every minute. But now that you have used your NSX's as daily drivers, are there any of you out there that wish you had used it as a weekend car instead & preserved the mileage on your car? Or if you could do it all over again, would you still use it as a daily driver?

In a nutshell, I am not gonna find myself on my deathbed wishing that I drove my NSX more.

I cannot drive the car as "firmly" in the rain, so it somewhat takes away from the enjoyment.

People generally drive poorly, and this is magnified in the rain. If my car is home in bad weather, no one can slam into me.

Washing cars by hand is a PITA!!!

Are there any NSX owners here who use their NSX as daily drivers? If there are, any advice you can give to a prospective/new NSX owner?...
I used my as daily driver for about 3 months. You really nothing to worry about as far as reliability goes, the mileage doesn't matter, like others have mentioned, its a Honda, you can rebulit motor if you need to.

However any NSX owner can treat the car whatever way they like, to some it is a dream car, some baby the car, some use it as pleasure car and keep the exterior condition in perfect shape, some use it just like another car. To each of his own. Everyone is right in their own way.

For me personally, there are certain situations that having an extra car just make the life so much easier. NSX is not made for daily stop and go traffic, in situations like this a Civic, Corolla does far better job.

You never know when that "I got nothing better to do and just have to F--k up your car" guy might do to your nsx. There are things that are outside of your control no matter how careful you are. Having a real daily driver for real daily driving and be stress free is priceless IMHO.

It's fine to drive in the rain.

I just hate washing cars.

Very good point! Also, I live in the south where rain might as well be snow! No one knows how to drive when this "extremely rare occurance" happens. That is why I choose not to drive mine in the rain. Talk to Hugh down in Florida (where I am currently) about Charlotte. He will give you all you need to know. Good guy too! Good luck and hope you enjoy your new ride!

Edit: EagleAWD, I've seen that lovely lady in your avatar in person. Holy crap! Only gets better! She was in a bar in Tally during the FSU vs. Clemson weekend. Clemson won...BS!!! Oh well, I'm a South Carolina fan so life is good for me these days. Plus, I got to see this hottie in person. My wife may choose to kill me after this post, but hey...that's what this lovely site is for, right?! Besides, my wife is way hotter than I anyway, she knows what's up. Take care everyone.

I have 11K miles in 9 Months. I have an 06 RSX-S for bad weather and it only has 3K so I think it has become my garage queen......Steve
I agree, it's crazy how we buy the NSX for an occasional driver then it ends up being driven more than anything else. But, its all good, I'm enjoying every mile of it. Greg Z

Yes the car can be driving daily but I personally don't want to beat the hell out of my car everyday. It also depends where you live......in so. cali with all the traffic, crappy roads and bad drivers it is stressful to drive the car every day for me at least. I rather just drive my Toyota beater and not worry about where I can or cannot take my car.

The NSX can be a daily driver if you work somewhere where it will not be messed with and thats all you plan to do it drive to work and home. Drive it to the mall or park it next to other people then you can expect something to happen to it. Living in LA is much different than living in another state or town. Just drive around Downtown LA or K-town and you will see what I am talking about. Theres just also too many haters here too......if you can't keep one eye on the car while its with you then you shouldn't be driving it daily.

I got my NSX 3 years ago and drove it every day as a daily driver for 2 straight years...15K miles/year. It ran great and only needed new rear tires 3 times in 2 years and minor repairs. I decided last year, when I had put more miles on it in 2 years than the previous owner did in 11 years that I should slow down on the wear and tear. So, it got converted to a garage queen, and I drive her every other weekend or so now. I do miss driving her daily, but it does make when I do more special.

For me it's not a question of whether it can be a daily driver... it most certainly can, however, depending on how low you are some driveways may be a concern... it's more of a question of whether you are comfortable enough to have it as your daily. Ediddy made some good points regarding the car. I can't imagine how it is in CA but even here in WI when I take the car out to dinner or even renting a movie often times there's a crowd gathered around the car (mostly teenage kids) by the time I come back. That and you have to contend with every kid in a compact car wanting to race you at a stoplight. If you can deal with these issues and if your area isn't filled with teenage testosterone then by all means it's one hell of a daily!

I daily drive mine.

My only complaints are going through rear tires quickly, I can never bring myself to put anything but max performance tires on the car.

I sold my other vehicles before moving to Texas. I will probably purchase a truck and a sport bike soon. Once that happens I will cut back on the the NSX to 3 times a week.

I believe the car should be enjoyed though. Garage queens look nice, but it's the performance I truly appreciate.

I drive mine everyday. I already own one garage queen, the NSX is my work horse :)

I've had it in huricane like rain, and most of the time it is dirty.
The only thing I will not do is drive it in the snow, but I'm mounting snow tires just in case it starts snowing while I'm at work.

If it was a Ferrari, I would worry about the miles, but being a Honda, miles are more a badge of honor then something to be concerned about. And personally, if I'm going to own a $90,000 car, I'm going to enjoy it.

+1, well said

Bought this one for my wife to daily drive.... and then I get it on weekends:biggrin:

But now I'm really torn. We both commmute on back roads to work, about 50 mi per day... the kind of drive an NSX is great for! However, we both avg. ~ 22-25K mi/year on our DD cars (mostly Volvo's) and end up with 200K mi before I know it. So I'm really torn about the NSX getting up in the high mile range so quickly  At least I've convinced her to leave it at home on rainy days. I find myself washing this car WAY too frequently.

Now I find myself looking at lower priced and salvage title cars to buy and use for a DD so I can keep the miles down on the '95.

I've got to say, it is the most enjoyable driving car we've ever owned! It's very hard not to drive it at every opportunity!

14,000 miles in the first 4 months of ownership

including a 950 mile day trip to/from The Tail of the Dragon http://www.killboy.com

drive it every chance you get

Wow, I thought I was going places with 30,000 miles in 20 months!

OTOH, I have been from Florida to Maine & back, Florida to Baltimore & back, Florida to Kansas & back, drove the the Blue Ridge Parkway twice and 3 trips to The Dragon.

Want to know how much a daily driver my car is? I don't have another car. My wife has a Mercedes SLK (another 2 seater), and that's it. That's what we have for vehicles. When company comes to town, we rent or borrow a sedan as necessary. It does help that all my neighbors have pickup trucks. :)

Obviously we could afford to keep a 3rd car, but both of us kind of take a little perverse pride in our vehicular arrangements and work around the limitations.

12,000 miles from April 15th to October 15th. Not bad, I think.

I guess Edmonton's pretty tame, because I take the NSX everywhere... restaurants, bars, etc. I don't park crooked, I try to park under lights, and that's it. The car's insured if something bad does happen.

Thanks again...

I bought my '93 exactly 3 years ago with 70,000 miles on the clock. She now is just shy of 175,000 miles. I drive it every day rain or shine, perform normal maintenance and only use Amsoil 10W-30 and Auto-RX. The car is bulletproof. Buy one, drive it and enjoy it. The issues with the car are infrequent, minor and are all covered in great detail on this website.
