Crank Tool for T-Belt change

Hey John!

Cool ... Winnipeg! I was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. I lived in the Southdale / Windsor Park & Fort Richmond areas until 2001 and then moved South to NC.

I just bought my 96 NSX-T in November and did not know any history on it so I did the belt and water pump. The car has 97000 miles on it and I did not want to take the chance. After digging into it it looked like the TB and WP was done at some point due to the Honda Bond and modidfied TB cover for the new weep hole location.

So ... with that said ... the belt look perfectly good and was not "browned" yet. I did notknow when it was installed so I did this change purly for my own knowledge just to make sure!

Next time I get to Winnipeg I will contact you to get together. All my family is still there and I have many customers I need to visit there as well. Hopefully I will be there early summer.

PM or e-mail me if you wish.

BAM! pictures as promised.

these tools are much easier to get. you wont buy the wrong size, its generic and will work on all harmonic balancers (HB) also known as crank pulley. Ill use HB since its the technical term.

pic 1 is of the setup.

chain wrench (CW) about 45 inches long or so. I had to buy two and take apart the chains and put them together. Dont get cheap ones since the amount of force put on the CW will break the cheap ones. I got mine from sears.

1/2 inch breaker bar (BB).. about 3 feet long.

1 blue cheater stick (CS). adds to the BB by an additional 3 feet.

my razor 3 is used as reference.

pic 2

CW wrapped around the HB and setup to apply force evenly around the crank pulley.

pic 3. MONEY SHOT!

here's the money shot. I know many of you tired the breaker bar with the Honda tool... but it was hard hun! since the long extension used to reach the crank pulley bolt applies a sideways torque on the bolt when you try to take it off.

the JACK STAND (JS) is the secret ! when you push down on the BB with the JS supporting the BB, you take away all the downward torque so you can apply ALL the force in turning the bolt!

pic 4, complete setup

this setup is complete and ready to go.

what I do is I actually, stand on the end of the blue cheater bar and tuck my legs in real quick and fully extend it with my complete 180lbs

this setup usually works on the first try.

lol i got vidoes of me jumping on this contraption, i looked like a total idiot so its not going up.

Im not a math wiz.... but that's putting on around 1zillion ft-lb

enjoy:cool:

happy motoring.

Rob
