Well I've converted of my car to metric, EXCEPT the odometer. I did pull the MPH speedometer and replace it with an EU market KM/H one.*
There isn't much to the instrument cluster and the odo appears to be laughably easy to reset and/or be replaced.
So you have a sender unit, signal converter in the ECM and a the odo. It is likely that either the signal receiver or the ODO is different. The odo- and trip- meter seem to have little drive motors built in. So my best guess is to replace those units with metric. It would make sense to have the final output systems different for the designated market.
If I may infer the climate control conversion, where the display/dials were metric or english and the rest of the control unit was exactly the same. There is a J or A in the upper right of the unit that seems to designate the intended market.
The odo/speedo signal appears to be a pulse, which is a bit difficult to modify. I'm not a low level electronics guy (I'm software), but unless there is a generic off the shelf chip/coverter it probably would be best to replace the part of the system that is metric/english equivilent.

I have purchased all my EU spec stuff from Dirk at nsx atsign onlinehome de . Bought several items, packed well, shipped fast and I'm happy with everything I've received.
*(I also replaced everything else with either JDM or EU specific parts: climate control, RDS stereo [cool!], air bag and all the stinkin' badges)
