Constructing Test Pipes for an 05'

I'm going to go see an exhaust fabricator here in the area today. Since no one can tell me who makes test pipes for my car, I'm just going to have some made. I've asked around for some exhaust fabricators and this guy's name kept coming up. He's some kind of legend....does specialty cars only....and comes highly recommended.

When I get the suckers made, I'll post some pics and impressions. I'm going to see if I can have them produced with the CEL fix intact as well...any others on here interested in having a set made? If so I'll purchase a few sets from him.

Me too. But I don't think I would want anything that is not stainless steel. Aluminized steel or something inferior is just going to rust and be a PIA. I do have a local place that can fabricate stainless if your place does not work and I will be happy to have a group of parts made. Let us know how it goes please. Good luck!

Please do not waste your time on this. I have already gone down this road. As most of you know I have a 2002 NSX-T. When I first bought it I tried to find a test pipe set but no luck. So I bought a set of new 97-99 CT headers, test pipes, exhaust. I got it all together and it fit fine. I bought a set of O2 sim's and hooked them up. I tried 4 set's, with different programing, of O2 sim's and no luck, CEL every time. Post 2002 NSX can not be tricked. I would not run my NSX with a CEL light on all the time. If you do have another problem you may not have any way of knowing untill it is too late.
Better off having a set of hyper-flows or other hi flow cat built. The end result will be about the same.

There was a time when people thought landing on the moon would be impossible.

You are right about that. Call me when we get there (the moon & when someone cracks the NSX OBDII cpu)!

I am sorry for the dumb questions here, but I am still somewhat ofa newbie here.

Cel is an engine code (check engine light), correct?

sim is a what? an O2 sensor?

Are the CT headers/exhaust/test pipes manufactured for 97-99 different than a header or exhaust for say my 2005? I thoght all NA2 was the same.

What is the exact reason for the code? the ECU is seeing a lack of cats in the system?

yes

It is an electronic device that is suppose to fool the O2 sensor into thinking it is getting a "good reading".

My understanding is that the ODBII compares the front 02 sensors to the back to make sure that the emissions come out clean (ie the cats are working).

What Silverstone05 is going to try is to basically move the back 02 sensors further out of the pipe using a senor bung so they are not in the "slipstream/flow" of the exhaust thereby allowing the 02 sensor to still work but not get such a good "wiff" so to speak of the exhaust gases. This has been done successfully with S2000s and others. The alternative is using a Sim which fools the 02 sensor, but apparently people have had mixed luck with that.

CEL is so 10 years ago. It is now MIL, malfunction indicator light. But yes, Check Engine Light.

O2 Sim is a simulator to tell the computer that everything is OK, when a real sensor would make the ECU go bananas. I suspect it fails because the ECU doesn't see any variation in the sim output and knows the results are bunk....so you would have to build a new sim that uses input from the first/pre/initial bank of O2's. (though this is just a wild guess. You would need a nice a test rig to determine what is a good circumvention routine.).

The lack of cats of will do a few things: cause the difference in readings from the primary and secondary O2 sensors will be the same. A cat should burn up the excess fuel+injected oxygen. Therefore, the secondary O2's should show less O2 than the primaries.

I have an http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/ LM-1 system that can track this issue down...you would have to build a widget that closely approximates that behavior of the secondary O2 sensors, probably using primaries as a heavy influencer.

CT has a part number for 97-2000, then 2001-2005. Exhaust is the same but I think the adapter (included partr may be different), and no test pipes for 2001-2005.

I already tried the "moving of the O2 sensor trick" It did not work. My next try was going to be a run off with a mini cat to try and trick it.

barring this option, are there any worthwhile aftermarket cats that can fit this car well?

Also I think the WRX or EVO guys have this same issue and they figured out a way... I can't remember on which forum I saw it... but they had cracked the problem with some trick. I do remember them having the same exact issue as us.

I am using Vibrant Hi-Flo cats in my '04 turbo setup and I have no check engine lights in more than 2500 miles. I have had test pipes made, and compared to the Hi-Flo cats the dyno show a very minor increase in peak HP with the test pipes. If you are having pipes made have them made with Hi-Flo cats inplace, there is very little power to gain from test pipes. When you look at the downsides of test pipes (smell, noise, O2 issues) it is not worth it in my opinion.

The Vibrant part number I used was:

Best of luck,

We made test pipes for a 99 that does not have a cel/mel light on
