My computer just started doing this and I don't know why. When I plug my headphones in, I can still hear music coming from inside the computer case as well as my headphones. I don't have external speakers hooked up. Is there a setting to change this? I've looked around, but couldn't find anything. I'm playing music through Windows Media Player if that matters. Thanks in advance.

u mean a built in speakerphone in the monitor or case?? make sure that u plug your headphone all the way, or it will do this.

if that still doesn't work, then open your comp case, cut the chord!

Without being there, an educated guess could be you have a cheap/faulty sound card.

If you plug the headphones in, it should switch off the internal sound. If the switch mechanism inside the plug is worn out, it may fail to engage..... meaning the sound isn't cut off and continues to your internal speaker.

Any more details on your computer make/model. Do you know why brand of sound device you have? (go to control panel, sounds & audio devices, and it should list it in there. probably C-Media, RealTek, or something like that)

Thanks for the responses guys. The headphones are plugged in all the way. That was the first thing I checked, but sometimes the obvious problems are the easiest to overlook.

The computer is Dell GX270 and it has SoundMAX Digital Audio. So yes, it probably is just a cheap part that broke.
