compatibility

They appear to have different part numbers.
1991 was R-12 and 1997 is 134a
You probably should retrofit your car to the newer gas in any case.

compressor

hi joe,
actually, i did have the conversion done already.
i noticed that the part number was different. do you think that all that needs to be done is the conversion?

I don't know but could call a salvage yard tomorrow and find out what the Hollander Interchange Data/Manual says about what parts/years are compatible. Where are you getting this part from, how much, and how long has it been off the donor vehicle? Give me a call tomorrow and I can do a three way call with a yard if you'd like.

compressor

thanks joe,
i already bought the compressor about a year ago from a 97 with 1700 miles. my compressor is making an awful noise and the dealer diagnosed it as a faulty compressor that could have devastating results at any moment if the bearings were to break causing fragments enter the system (don't know how accurate this information is)

anyhow, i'll try to give you a call tomorrow.

thanks!
james
