Hi all,

Does anyone insure their NSX through a collector or hobbyist insurance company that they'd recommend? I contacted all the insurance companies on the following web page, and found only one (American Hobbyist Insurance) that claims will write a policy for the NSX:

http://www.edmunds.com/advice/fiw/articles/43007/article.html

I'm kinda peeved at Grundy, because they gave me a quote of $411/year before I bought my car, but then reneged (and said they don't insure NSX's) after I made the purchase. Most companies I found don't even know what an NSX is(!), they just hear the "Acura" part and immediately reply "we don't do Acuras"

Any help would be appreciated, as I will probably put less than 1000 miles/year on my car (I have another daily driver).

Thanks!

Try: Hagerty Classic Insurance.

When you called them, they WILL say that they don't do Acuras. I would ask for the application and submit it anyway. Their underwriter approved and insured my 1991 NSX with 8,000 miles for an agreed value.

They are a small insurance company that specialized in Collectors or Classics. They are being underwritten by CNA. Carroll Shelby insured his collections with them.

I've never claim my policy, knock on wood. But I heard from collectors that they are excellent.

Most insurance companies WILL insure the NSX. In fact, I've never heard of any insurance company refusing to insure an NSX, except for some other reason where they would refuse to insure all cars.

The only advantage of a collector car insurance policy is that you can insure the car for a specific, agreed-on value, so if it's totalled or stolen you know exactly how much they'll pay you. That's more important for rare collectible cars, where it's difficult to pinpoint comparable sales and values on a claim, than on an NSX, unless your mods are so extensive that it's a one-of-a-kind like Gerry's or David's.

Did you try contacting your current insurance company and asking them?

Thanks for the info. I did obtain a quote from my own insurance company, but it was rather obscene considering the extremely low mileage I will be driving (they don't offer a low-mileage discount).

I originally looked into such insurance when I bought my Mustang, but had no luck since the car is so new/common. Just to give you an idea, I purchased the Stang in December, and right now the odometer reads ~300..

i just went through this and american hobbyist was the only reasonably priced solution i could find for my situation, and the price was right. it was about $400/year to store my car (unregistered, 0 miles per year) and insure it for $38k.

0 miles per year
this is "comprehensive-only", right?? if your car is hit while driven, you're not covered ??

Do they cover cars that are under "show and display" status ?? I think max of 2500 miles/year.

Rob is storing his car for ~18 months, so it will not be driven.
