Before you electrocute your knuckles, hear me out.

This past Saturday, I was a patient at a local Acura dealer's operating room for a few hours. Just kind of twiddlin' my thumbs, waiting for an oil change -- long wait. So, I decide to wander around the new car lot, just to check out Acura's newest iron. I keep wandering...and wandering...and wandering... NOTHING. Not one car in the lot even remotely caught my eye. I peered into the window of a new RL -- pretty fancy -- all I could think about was "uh, who cares. I want my NSX." Then, thinking that Acura's boring sedans were the problem, I made my way over to the used car area. Several 3 and 5 series, an S4, lots of other relatively expensive sedans that I can't for the life of me remember. Once again, who cares?? They all look big and bulky, with stupid chunky wheels and stupider chunky chunks of "luxury."

Seriously, an NSX is art. Everything else is just transportation.

It takes about 20 or 30 minutes to do yourself and it's easy enough that a 10 year old can do it. Why wait for hours at a dealership of all places? Shit, call me the next time and if you bring lunch I'll do it for you and you can enjoy a nice drive up to Boca.

Hopefully it's just the calm before the storm.... How 'bout a FR GT out in 08 followed by the NSX^2 in 09? We can dream at least..

Exactly!!! I totally agree with you!

I was walking aroung the 2005 Sydney Motor Show thinking exactly the same thing! All I could think of was:

a) boring,
b) not my thing,
c) $$$ for THAT? They must be dreaming!
d) Gee the Ferrari girls aren't as nice as that Toyota chick
e) WTF... There's NSXBOX talking to the Toyota chick! B*stard!

So I'm leaving the show and bump into one of the club members (who has an S2000) and says "see anything you'd sell the NSX for?" ...

NOPE! I don't know why I waste my money coming to these events!... I already have my dream car...

I agree. All the new automobiles we see coming out today ARE GETTING BULKIER with more uplifts there and there. There is always a reason though. It's society today that are answering the surveys and asking for more and more bigger cars!

The NSX is truly an art, and it is so simple. It's all you need and only everything in a sportscar.

i know exactly what you mean. I had mine in monday for service at acura and decided to go browse the mega lots at the auto mall. Absolutely nothing caught my attention.

I agree completely.
That is, there are some cars that do interest me but you can hardly find them.
Just today (a very rainy day) I took the NSX to work for the first time. Parked the car way back on the parking place and as I was walking toward the entrance of the building I was looking at all the other cars parked there. And I was thinking something like... boring... boring... boring.
Literally, an array of grey/black/dull colored middle-of-the-road lease-cars (most of them) that don't stand out at all. Too bad I don't have my camera with me right now, I could have posted a picture of this parking lot.
Even as I look out the windows now, through the rain, there is a new Renault Megane parked next to my car, also in the color red. And yet, the color of that practically brand-new car looks dull and obtuse compared to the shiny red of the NSX (Ok, I'll admit, I waxed the car last Sunday).
Is it just me or has the paint quality of the average car dropped markedly in the last few year ??

I sat in the Audi A4 of a collegue from work last week. He doesn't know about the NSX (nobody does) and he was talking about the on-board computer (sigh...) and all I could think about was how deep you sit in cars like that. Felt more like a bathtub to me.

All of your comments are not surprising. We all drive what can still arguably be called the best sports car in the world. And she's a work of art to boot. Looking at other cars is going to be for the most part disappointing. Dropping your NSX off for service and then looking at other cars at the dealership is the same thing as dating a beautiful woman and dropping her off at the beauty salon and then wandering into a Weight Watchers store while you wait for her.

Banker dude....i hope you don't mind that i use your last sentence for my tagline.....dude...you're there....

I think the new TL is a pretty nice car (and it's a Acura) for a 4-door sedan. Good looks inside and out, decent performance... particularly with the 6-speed and brembo brakes. I don't find it boring at all... not so for most everything else out there in this catagory!

Seriously. At least you know it will be done right (I've had bad experiences with dealerships).

I don't know guys. While I love the NSX and have owned 3, there has never been a better time to be a car lover.

You've got affordable pure toys like S2k, Evo, STi, even muscle like the Mustang. Then there's the less pure but still sporty Solstice and Saturn, Miata. Then you have a little higher cost yet pure toys like Elise, new Z06, New M Coupe and Roadster, Cayman, Viper, C55 and SLK55 under 100k. The new XK8 is sweet also. Then there's the high end - 911 GT3, Aston AMV8, GT40 and others.

Would I take one of these over my 98 NSX for the same price my NSX was NEW? Of course! I would take a new Z06 for $75k over $90k on my NSX. I don't think I would buy an 05 NSX for this reason. I would just buy a 97-2002.

BUT for the same $45k or so my car is worth, I don't see a worthy replacement except for maybe an Elise (just for a change) or and 911 Turbo 3.6 like the one from Bad Boys.

Going from your NSX to an Elise (just for a change) would be like going from Julia Roberts to Julia Childs. Those Elises are not good to look at... to say the least!

Have you ever sat in an Elise? YOu are shoulder to shoulder with your passenger. You might end up reaching for the stick shift and end up grabbing a buddy's schlong instead.

I didn't originally post that, but yeah the Elise is a "Toy car" in my opinion
not good for daily driving or long trips....basically just a track car.

I sat in an Elise a couple of weeks ago and for the life of me I couldn't understand how a larger sized guy could buy one......
With the high/wide sills and the steering wheel blocking your entry, you need to be part gymnast, part contortionist and part masochist.

Perhaps at the ripe old age of 43 and 220+ pounds I need something a little more than a go cart...

 Hugh you're hilarious, that made my afternoon!

Recently reading the Feb 1992 issue of Australia's Wheels Magazine (in which the NSX was crowned their Car Of The Year) showed me just how boring the NSX made 4 door sedans look back then.

Just as a WW2 fighter plane still looks sleek today, the NSX will always be eye-catching... but I think comparing the looks of a 4 door sedan with an exotic sports car is always going to be a little dissapointing

And then you'll really have some explaining to do!

Speaking about 'Toy Cars'...

I had a ride in this 'car' last Friday when I finally picked up my NSX again after a long long time. I had spoken to the owner before and he wanted to get a ride in the NSX so I took him for a ride and then, afterward, he took me out in the Rocket.

This is a English designed racer and I believe there is only One in my country. It is a welded-tube chassis race-car with a Yamaha 170HP motorcycle engine in the back. Two small seats allow two people to sit very very close behind each other. The whole car weighs just 700 lbs and is lightning fast.

We went up to speeds of 100mph during which the wind is blasting straight in your face. The noise is unbelievable and the whole car shudders and shivers over every little bump in the road. Cornering on the semi-slick tires was extreme. The clutch was very direct during shifting, a on-off design and the whole car shakes during shifting.

And the funny thing is, the car has a normal motorcycle license-plate so it can be driven on the road like any other car

Surely if it is registered as a motorbike you would have to wear motorcycle helmets? However, from your description, it doesn't seem you were?
