Carrera GT fastest car on Nürburgring

the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari is the ultimate car built to date. They built 399 of them and at least one has been wrecked already. (wreckedexotics.com) the Carrera GT's volume is goingt o be around 1500. The McLaren F1 was less than 200. The Mclaren is a wonderful car but tough to drive. The A/C worked poorly and repairs might be difficult short of shipping it to England. The Ferrari has great A/C as Does the Porsche. If you have the money to buy one buy both. Better yet go to your local Ferrari dealer kiss some major butt and order a F430 (better get a coupe, Spyder and Challenge), F600 Monza, F612 Scagletti as well as anything else they come out with between now and then and then the next time they come out with a world beating super car MAYBE you can be considered by the President of Scuderia Ferrari as worthy of buying one. That might not be quite enough be it is always worth a shot? You could always by a Ferrari Dealership, oh wait it might be eaiser to go the butt kissing route.

I saw one last week at a high end dealership during the unveiling of the new 911 and SLK. The car was beautiful. Absolutely. Carbon fiber everywhere. Fit and finish the best I've ever seen. The only thing I didn't like was the sound...though very much like an F1 car...it was too muffled. Granted I didn't hear it under load but it lacked evidence of the 600hp engine while reving at a stop. Still, by the numbers and by looking over every body panel, curve, interior, and engine part, it's the most impressive car I've ever seen.

Here's some pics from the event.

Carrera GT

My dad's good friend owns a GT. Why did he get the porsche instead of a ferrari? The reason is simple, it's a porsche, he's got a garage full of 911 custom turbo'd widebodies. I'm assuming that the majortity of the people who buy one of these Carrera GT's is somewhat of a p-car enthusiast.

, but what are you gonna do. someday ill run into one.

Run into one? Not literally I hope.

Having seen one at a car show, I was surprised how small it was in real life. In photos, it looks big, beefy and aggressive. It was still impressive though

That would be a nice car to have. I personally would get several cars that I think are cool and would love to have and modify the hell out of them. Maybe even start a small racing team with an S2000? I would love to do that!

You could start a successful racing S2k racing team for much less than 1.2m

My neighbor has a GT, he does not like it as much as his Modena, and is trying to sell the GT.
I know he does not like the way the clutch works, I will try and find out more details.

The CGT's clutch will NOT allow you to launch the car, but it works perfectly. Besides starting in first, the car is supposed to shift very precisely once the car is rolling.

How often do you launch out on the course during the 24 hours of Le Mans anyway?

Oh wait, I don't see a Carrera GT listed in there. My eyes got a little tired halfway through your list. By the way, are you going to get one?

Hi

Well Carguy bought one and you can watch it in his garage here

Not sure what the CGT will cost in Norway, but I would assume that it will be about $900.000 here.

Regards

I was having problem launching the CGT but Carguy (post #36) pointed out that the computer will do the launch for you. All you got to do is release the clutch without gas and the computer will do the rest. Once the car is rolling, then you start giving it gas. Never have a chance to try it.

Shifting is something that takes a bit of getting used to. Shifting to 3rd and 5th almost feel like you have to reach out with your arm parallel to your shoulder because the stick is so high. 3rd gear is a bit tricky to shift also.

I saw a Red Enzo on ebay for $999,999 in San Diego. No bids though... I personally love the enzo but they both one the HOTTEST CARS on the face of this planet! There seem to be more Carrera GTs then enzos, its much harder to buy an enzo then a carrera gt.

This is interesing:

8:37 --- Honda NSX 3.0 (07/1991)
8:38 --- Honda NSX 3.2 (08/1997)

And why is the NSX-R not on that list?

There's some problem with comparing the times:

1. It's a mixup of times from the Nordschleife alone and (in case of the 24 hours times) Nordschleife plus a portion of the new GP track (this portion varies from year to year, nearly never the same - depends on the space they need for additional "Fahrerlager" on parts of the GP track)

2. A lot of the posted times are from "sport auto" supertest which isn't driven on the whole Nordschleife (including the times from NSX 1997 and NSX-R - has been discussed before)

3. They renewed the tarmac from time to time - the surface is quite different (means faster) now from 20 years ago

4. The lap times where driven in different weather and temperature conditions which can make a huge difference on this long track.

5. The times where driven on different tires - from race slicks to street legal tires (some even with street legal sports tires like Yoko A 038 on the Caterham)

6. Only the "sport auto" laps where always driven by the same driver (with one exception)

Conclusion: These times may give you some hints but no real comparison.
So, NetViper: The 1 second gap between the two NSXs has absolutely nothing to say - plus: AFAIK the first test was on OEM Yoko tires and the second on OEM Bridgestones.

Haha, if only the Enzo sold at its MSRP of 660,000 still...
I was just in the Porsche dealer looking at their black Carrera GT (schneider-nelson in new jersey)... so much more amazing in person, the detail and quality is just stunning.
Anyway, sticker was "only" 448,000... Enzos are going for a cool million now.
