I am looking at an NSX in Orlando tomorrow(Tuesday April 20th), I wanted to know if either someone from the forum could help me look at it and also where is a good place to take it to get an inspection by a good NSX tech.

Thanks in advance,

Carl

There are several of us here in Orlando. Where exactly is the car? Have it inspected at either Fournier's Automotive 407-898-8002 (speak to Carl) or First Class Automotive 407-228-2849 (NSX tech is Nabil Armaly).

I am supposed to go look at the car downtown tomorrow at lunch time, in the suntrust building parking garage. I pulled the carfax and it looks clean. Need to verify the Vin on the tranny for snap ring issues. The clutch and timing belt have been done, he didn't mention the water pump or window regulators so I will have to verify those items as well.

Take it to Nabil at First Class -- he will give you an accurate picture, and a good opinion. His shop is across from Fashion Square, maybe the owner will meet you there instead.

I looked at the car today, finally. It is in decent shape not meticulous, the front bumper was repainted due to minor damage, owner is to provide me with the receipt for this as well as other repairs. The panels all seem to line up correctly. There is wear on the seats but I expect that for a 91, The car fax is clean. He did replace the clutch and timing belt but not the water pump(not sure why you wouldn't due that, but at least the timing belt was done), new bose speakers(not a fan but at least they work) and new tires. The car is not meticulous in engine and front compartment, however it only has 59K and most of the major service work done. The windows roll up a little slow, maybe the dali fix it thingys and lube the tracks. The rear strut bar is missing. There is a slight bump in the rear bumper however paint is intact, think I could replace that fairly cheaply. I want to get the WW kit eventually and could get that done at the same time. Only other issue was right up at the front of the dash in the middle next to the window, maybe near some sensor(center channel???not sure what it was) there was a small crack in the dash. Car was not smoked in.
The car drove well and sounded and seemed very tight, no creaks that I could tell, handles great and drives well(once you get use to no power steering)

A/C blows cool but not cold, may need freon, but I woudl think Nabil can do a pressure test on the system to check for leaks.

Car is not in snap ring range. Hopefully next friday I can take it to Nabil at First Class Automotive for a mechanical inspection, including compression check/leak down test.

I would say the car is a B-C+( I took pictures and can post them once I upload them to the computer)

He is asking 24K which seems fair to me, what do you guys think?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

The crack next to the climate control sensor is a common problem, as noted in the FAQ (Troubleshooting - Interior).

Sounds like a bargain. Buy it before someone else here beats you to it.

Thanks for the response. I told him I was very interested, just need to get it mechanically inspected, he has a busy week next week and said he can't drop the car until friday of at First Class. I was the first person to test drive. He did say two other people were flying in to come see it/test drive. So if he is a stand up guy I am hoping once it checks out mechanically I get first bid, I did say that if it checks out with the mechanic I would give him his asking price, rather than try and haggle for $500 and possibly have him sell to someone else. I don't want to get into a bidding war though.

Thanks,

Carl

The way you have left it, he can turn around and sell it to someone else.

If you are serious about this car - to the extent that you would feel bad if someone else bought it - then I would suggest that you and he sign a simple contract that you can write yourself (containing a clause saying that it's contingent on First Class not finding any undisclosed problems), and that you give him a deposit (that the contract specifies is refundable if First Class DOES find problems and you decide to back out as a result). Otherwise, you could lose it.

I don't know the seller or the car, but this advice generally holds true for anyone who thinks he's found the car and doesn't want to let it slip through his hands.

Car Fax,

I was reviewing the Car Fax and under a few places it says
"exempt from odometer reporting" excuse my ignorance but what exactly does that mean?

but what does exempt from mileage mean?

Thanks,

Carl

In Florida, once a car becomes more than 10 years old, I think it is no longer necessary to have the mileage recorded for the DMV. I found this out when I went to register a motorcycle that was more than 10 years old at one time and I was also quite suprised. Also, certian counties in Florida no longer require an annual inspection.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. As long as the car has it's service records and you can verify the actual mileage it's no big deal.

Good luck. It sounds like a good deal.

Well it looks like I might not get the car the seller has a buyer willing to pay asking price(cash) without doing the mechanical inspection. Something I want done prior to buying. I guess I see his point as the seller...just sucks for me...oh well back to the drawing board....did say if it falls through he will let me know...don't have that kind of luck though.

Not a surprise...

I kind of knew you would say that. I tried to contact him after I drove it friday, to make a contract similar to the one you said above. He went out of town that day and I couldn't get a hold of him. So today was the first day I managed to talk to him. Apparantly someone test drove it an hour after me and offered him cash for his asking price. Deal is still pending, but I don't have my hopes up.

Such is life...
