C8 vs NSX comparison

The Ford gt350 gets 14 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. The GT3 gets 15 city and 20 highway. The NSX gets 21 city and 22 highway. Now I did not purchase the NSX based upon its mpg. Having said that neither Porsche nor Ford can come close without significant investment and technology. You stated that the both the Ford and Porsche are faster on the track. What tract and what were the times?
The NSX's city # is so good due to hybridization. The HWY number isn't much different.

On multiple different tracks.
 
The NSX is not "ahead of its' time". It is one of the few super hybrids.

I think your correct as La Ferrari, Mac P1, and 918 were introduced before the NC1. If ones budget didn't include a seven figure hybrid super car the NSX is fist. Porsche, Mclaren and Corvette will all have affordable hybrids in the next 18 months.

didn't the 17's push a lot on track with the old Michelin's? Also the front motors were kinda dead weight in experienced (Fast)hands after a few laps.

I don't recall the NSX running Michelins. It was usually the Continentals or the Pirelli Trofeo Rs (which makes the car quite nice to drive on track).

The front motors don't degrade the cars performance after a few laps, they still do a lot in terms of torque vectoring and are a crucial part of the car's handling and character.
 
ahh yes the Michelins....did not get great track reviews....the R compounds RRRR the way to go. The newer conti6 is also very good as we have discussed.
 
Their systems integration that make the torque vectoring transparent and respond in the way the car should to a given driver command is better than most supercars out there. Having said that, while subjectively impressive from a calibration standpoint, it's objectively not significantly quicker because of all that tech. Compared to cars with similar power and tire (stickyness) it's actually slower around a track than a Porsche GT3 or Shelby GT350R. The NSX's city # is so good due to hybridization. But I am at a loss when it comes to the Ford Mustang gt350R winning over the NC1 on multiple tracks. I am sure you know, so please educate me on some timed laps where the gt350R beat the NC1.

Even if the Mustang gt350R and gt3 are faster on the track I would not get rid of my NC1 for either car. I believe the NC1 is a well balanced car that I really enjoy driving. By the way, which car did you replace your NC1 with? Thanks

Do you have a link? I did a brief search and found that Cup 2s were optional. The main issue for the NSX was the performance of the Conti street tires, but the optional Trofeo Rs were quite good.

I own a '92, never owned an NC, but have hundreds of track miles benchmarking it against the GT350R and GT3 on numerous tracks. I almost daily drive a GT3 these days and they are not that bad at all -better than most NA1/2 NSXs on coilovers.

The NC is a great car in its own right, is a relatively affordable performance hybrid, and is more luxurious and a nicer daily driver than the 350R or GT3. There is no NSX-R version of the NC, so there shouldn't be much offense taken that those track-focused cars are faster around a track. They aren't exactly direct competitors.

Professional drivers - “average” person would surely benefit from awd around a track.

At too many cars and coffees, guys quote ring times like it was their own and they have never even seen a track let alone been to Germany lol.

Also pro drivers have their own gripes with cars/mfgs, ie. Probst and his distaste for the R35, etc.

I’m willing to bet the base, iron brake, no option NC1 will walk around C8 fully optioned with LT3, Z51 and all the aero bits with the “average” driver. Mustang would be comical.

Thing to keep in mind is people are paying $110-120k+ for the C8 optioned out.... base model. Hard to justify that in my opinion.

Funny you mentioned that most folks are not going to see any of these lap times. After re-reading the 2016 road test I thought to myself, what the hell, I don’t care if the Mustang is faster by 0.2 seconds. I am never going to drive balls out on the track. It is more car then I can really handle. I am on the other side of 73 and nothing works like it did when I was 30. Hell, I am happy enough just owning my NSX. I get to drive it pretty much any time I want to. I get to look at it everyday. I keep it looking spectacular. Life is good!

Bless you Doc, I’m 48 and been tough on my mechanicals, but like my cars still look and feel new ;) Fingers crossed I get another 25 to continue enjoying things.

So many great cars out these days, think we can all agree it’s a great time to be driving.
 
It would be interesting to see them re-create that road test with drivers who are experienced in each vehicle. One thing I've heard several times is that the NSX doesn't perform like any other car, so pro drivers have to "unlearn" a little bit of what is taken as gospel truth. The most credible source for this was the driver who took my wife and I out for half a day at the TRC as part of our NSX Insider Experience. He'd been driving NSX's since early in development, and is apparently *the* guy for all exotics at that track. He said that it took him quite a lot of time behind the wheel to learn how to get the most out of the NSX, and that it requires slightly different approaches to corners, acceleration/braking, etc. And he might have been feeding us a line since we were on an Acura tour, but he said the NSX is now his absolute favorite car to push hard at the track. He is able to eke out every last ounce of performance, but also loves that, for novices like my wife and I, it is so well-engineered that even we can get to 90% performance very intuitively.

That's a long way to say that many of the complaints of pro drivers in early NSX's could be due to THEIR limitations and not the car's.

Randy Pobst tested the NC1 for Tirerack a couple of years ago at Mazda raceway and ran 1:36.36 that was before the latest models handling tweets. He tested the new C8 and ran 1:37.83. So 1.5 seconds is a lot for a 2.2 mile circuit. Argue tires, different day, raining in Spain whatever. I've had some goes against the C8 and the NC1 is faster everywhere.

Not a lot of pro driver are comfortable driving the torque vectoring. In fact most pro's are not that comfortable driving an all-wheel drive. Example when Porsche some years ago insinuated that Nissan GT-R was cheating on their Ring times because Porsche couldn't duplicate it. Nissan sent them a tape of Michael Krumm doing a 7:08. In his interview Krumm said the driving technique is much different than most drivers as they didn't know how to use the all wheel drive out of the turns.

He was really blown away by the NSX. He's a friend of mine and that is my car.

Anyone end up picking up a C8? Curious to read how it compares to the 1st gen NSX. I'm wondering if it's the car I was waiting for Honda to make. I have a deposit down on a C8 Z06 while we all wait to learn more about it. I had zero interest in a Corvette until it went mid engine and the FPC (if legit) is pretty exciting.

I had placed a deposit back in 2019 for a MY 2021 C8 Z51, the dealer called in Dec of 2020 to inform me that an allocation would be available for delivery by March 2021. I decided to move to the C8 Z06 list based on some feedback that I had heard from some Porsche owners who had purchased a C8 Z51 for the track.

The C8 Z51 can be made track worthy when using R-comps if you upgrade the brakes (front caliper/rotor, rear rotor, track pads, fluids) and if you are willing to run aggressive alignment specs. With those mods the car would be running lap times slightly faster than a 718 GT4/981 GT4. Still slower than most 991 GT3's out there.

I have also been on the waiting list for a 718 GT4RS, hopefully more will be known about the car later this Spring/Summer.

The 992 GT3 looks very tempting as well (besides the CL wheels been used on the car), each generation of GT3 has become better from the previous one, and the 992 GT3 might hit the sweet spot by having the performance of the 991.2 GT3RS without the crazy ADM's.

The only GT3 that I have owned was the 996.2 GT3 that I purchased back in 2004 and that car left a lot to be desired for a car that cost $118K out of the door back then. I have driven the 997.1/.2 GT3's and 991.1 GT3's, and each generation has become better from their previous models but not enough for me to give it another go to a RR car. The 992 GT3 might change that given what has been written about the car.

Hopefully more details will be available by this Summer regarding the C8Z06, that should help those of us still on the fence.

Saw my 1st C8 in person on the road yesterday......looks much better than in photos........
