Broken into today in downtown Palo Alto

Someone decided to smash my driver-side window and make off with my kenwood KOS-V1000 head unit. Idiot(s) missed the V1, amp, LCD, bt, nav, and speakers. Messed up a couple interior panels. Basically it looks like the window was smashed, center console rifled through, seat was moved forward, and the kenwood unit was ripped out. Could have been worse a lot worse I guess.

I'm mostly upset with the huge amounts of broken glass I have to clean up now. Spent an hour cleaning the big pieces off the seat - fortunately I had my Hrant mat which I placed on the seat so I could drive home, but I think I'll need a new seat cover. Guess I know how I'm spending this holiday weekend...

Was parked next to my office in a parking structure in downtown Palo Alto.

Sorry to hear about your car. Seems like that monster Denali offered the dirtbag alot of coverage from being seen.

Check the edges of your door, he may of smashed it up against the Denali or it's step during the process.

Try keeping a cover on if possible. It's a pain and you'll end up with plenty of fine scratches down the road, but out of sight, out of mind. Or atleast it'll be alot harder and alot more work to even get a peek next time.

I filed a police report, and called the insurance company. Now I'm waiting for the adjuster to call me back. I have a $250 deductible so it'll easily cover that. Anyone know what a new window + installation costs?

As for the door getting rammed into the Denali - I don't think they opened the door, since it was still locked when I arrived. Does our built-in alarm even go off if the window is smashed?

There are certainly going to be scratches from all the broken glass in the door jam, and I dunno how the hell I'm going to get all the shards out from the cracks in the seat. Might need to recover my driver's seat.

I daily drive my car to work and park there every day, so now I dunno what to do once I get it fixed. I take the train sometimes, so maybe I'll just stick to that.

That's awful. I'm sorry to hear about it. Let the insurance do the clean-up of the glass. That's what they're for.

A lifetime ago I worked in Palo Alto and there were some VERY bad parts of town. Sorry to see the damage they did to your lovely car. The good news is it can be fixed.

Do you think it was a random act? Was the electronics behind the seat visible from outside the car? If not, maybe it was someone that is familiar with your habits or your car.
At least they didn't steal it.

Palo alto? I know one side of it is bad and other side is really nice area assuming if you exit from 101. Use to live up there.
