Has anyone had any experience bringing an NSX into the States from Canada? They have some good deals on some used ones here that I wanted to check out while I was home.

This might be a silly question, but did CDN NSX's also have snap ring problems? (91-92)

Thanks.

It's not a silly question. Yes, Canadian NSX's also had snap ring problems. I believe the transmission numbers followed a single set of sequential identification numbers worldwide for all years, even though the sequence numbers for the VIN vary by market (the last six digits on the Canadian ones begin with 8) and start over each model year.

You might want to be careful here. There may be hidden costs involved with bringing the car into the US.

For example, my brother recently imported a Canadian '87 VW Golf into the US (his wife is Candian and they recently got married). They wouldn't allow the car in until it met all US safety standards for that year, the speedometer displayed mph (not km/h), and the brake light on the dash had to say "brake" (it couldn't have a little brake icon!)

Found 2 cars, both in excellent shape. One is a 91 with 70K (KM) for 54 and its silver. The other was a 94 Green with 60K for 64. He said the silver drives the resale value higher, and of course green is the lowest. I an not sure why though?? I think the green with tan interior is VERY nice.

Anyway, that is all I have found. They didn't know much about bringing a car back other than it would probably be expensive.

The 91 is going to cost you 35 US and then you have to transport it and then you have to change the parking brake light. I don't see how it is worthwhile buying from Canada.
The 35 is based on an exchange of .64, if you can do better at the bank let us know, and a 1.5 percent duty.

There's information about importing a car into the States, including importing from Canada specifically, in the FAQ here.

That 162% exchange rate isn't going to help you if the prices are 62 percent higher...

I imported a 91 in 1992 with no problems. The story about changing a speedo to KMH sounds fishy because speedos in both countries display both standards. The emissions and safety standards are what matter and they are the same. Get some advice from a lawyer - some provinces have programs to refund taxes on large purchases which leave the country within a specified window. Your American friends will be impressed when your speedo registers 150 on the Interstate.

They already are!
