I'm a new nsx owner and would like to put some mods on my bone stock red 93. I'vv already ordered some 18 and 19 inch bbs wheels with toyo tires. Thing is, I'm not big on the riced rice burners. I dont want an exhaust that goes waaaaahhhhhhhhhh. I dont want like flowmasters or something crazy like that either. I thought of Borla. It's been accepted on everything from a dodge viper to a turbo porsche to a f150. I'm not sure if that would be cool for a nsx or not. Please give me your input, is Borla good for a nsx or not. Thanks fellow nsxr's.

I would recommend that you live with the car for a few months, and then decide what you like or don't like about it.

You're aware of all the disadvantages of doing so, right?

I would suggest you come to one of the NSX Club meetings - NSXPO 2003 would be ideal - where you get a chance to hear all the different exhausts that are available, in person, and decide for yourself - rather than basing your opinion on someone else's opinion.

P.S. Since the Anytime/Borla exhaust is new to the market, you're not going to get a whole lot of responses from people who have actually heard it... your survey results are likely to be mostly noise and not really meaningful.

EDIT: Just noticed the obvious play on words in this post - "mostly noise"... :D

I have it on my NSX and I love it. It is a far cry from a loud rice-burning bolonga-can. Looks even better in person than on the pics. Maybe this weekend I will take a few pics to post.

BTW, if you read the above thread, make sure to read it to completion.

kgp- does it sound too muscle-carry? like flowmasters or something? do you have headers or what other exhaust mods have you dont along with the mufflers? and nsxtacy what are you talking about with the wheels?

I think Ken means that larger tires = slower accleration... at least that is one thing he would point out! I am sure he has plenty others..

I believe I have a Borla stainless exhaust on mine. It sounds ok, but I haven't heard a lot to compare.

I think I like the sounds of the Remus exhaust on my previous NSX, and definitely prefer the quad tips the Remus had.

The Borla seems quieter than the Remus but I don't have a K&N cone filter anymore so that may be making part of the difference.

Iv'e never heard the term "muscle-carry" but if it in any way refers to loud, that it is not. This is a very "civil" sounding exhaust. Anytime (John) knows that I demanded as much. :D

Mods I have that might effect sound: Comptech headers and BaschBoost.

There are some significant disadvantages with 18" front and 19" rear wheels on an NSX:

- Heavier weight (unsprung weight) resulting in poorer acceleration

- Very limited selection of tires

- Short sidewall makes wheels susceptible to damage from potholes

- Tires are more expensive

- No OEM tires available that were designed specifically for the NSX

The only offsetting "advantage" is looks, which are highly subjective anyway.

The biggest wheels I would recommend are 17" front and either 17" or 18" rear. Lots of folks are using these sizes, most often with 215/40-17 front tires and rear tires that are 255/40-17, 255/35-18, or 265/35-18.

Huh? The Anytime Borla just came out, and you are'nt sure if you have it. Or, did Borla previously undertake a separate attempt at making an exhaust for the NSX? I will ask Anytime to clarify.

WilsonP may have an exhaust made by a muffler shop using the Borla muffler(similar to the flowmaster thread you see here on Prime). The AnytimeRacing exhaust was carefully tuned to the NSX and wasn't one off the shelf, fitted to the NSX. Many, many prototype exhausts were put on mine and other test cars(stock and with FI) before Borla and myself were happy with the sound, fitment and dyno results that it produced. On a bone stock 95,000 mile NSX, HP increases were in the 14-16 RWHP range. Although there was a flaw in the first batch, Borla has since "made it right", and units are currently(other than KGP, who has the correct exhaust now) set to be arriving at SOS as early as next week. The initial $100 discount on the first 10 is running close to being sold out.
Take care,
John

well the wheels are on backorder so i can cancel anytime i gues. is 18x9 rear and 17x7.5 front a good size?

as in 'muscle-carry' i mean like a mustang gt with flowmaster american thunder- rumbling when idle. with the exhaust im more focussing on the perfect sound because im not a fan of rice burners, but a rumbling exhaust is not good either. something like what a porsche gt (not 2 or 3 but the regular one) stock exhaust sound like when reving, maybe a bit louder. ill look more into the anytime borla.

i was already thinking of getting some springs and ive heard the eibachs are great, i dont want to lower it much, dont want to raise it, just improve handling. any suggestions?

well forget all the exhaust talk... i went and watched the videos at anytime racing and the sound was exactly waht im looking for. exactly. as soon as i decide to spend the money ill contact you guys. really really amazing sounding.

Yep, it is a nice sound. Now I just have to figure out how I can follow the car AND drive it at the same time.;)

Prob best to start a new thread, or better yet...do a quick search first.

wheel size is subjective to what you want em for

Which I already stated. But the practical disadvantages of large wheels, particularly those larger than 17"/18", are very real, and should be taken into consideration before making a final decision.

Does this exhaust, or any after market exhaust, or headers, affect the car's ability to pass smog?

From your previous comments it seems that your car is a 93. Is the car running the original shocks? If so replacing just the springs with Eibach's will shorten the lifetime of your existing shocks.

The handling might improve based on the fact that your center of gravity is lowered a bit, but over time the shocks will wear out faster, and dampening/rebound will be affected

There are many good aftermarket suspension systems available, and many reviews on the boards as well.

Post a new thread and I'm sure that the fellow board members will be able to give you their views.

Good luck!
