Best tires for 1000-mile road race?

The Tire Rack test report was very helpful - thanks! I guess I'll find out how quickly the AD08's fall off, maybe on the second or third day

But it is an endurance event, so I won't be pushing anywhere near as hard as you guys do on the track!

I hate the NSX steering rack, here is my video from two weekends ago on Star Spec Direzza's in the rain. If you play the first episode of me getting loose in slow motion I actually do 2.5 turns of the wheel to catch it (Fast Forward to 1:05 or so)!

I'm sure it probably felt like 2.5 turns of opposite lock to catch the slide, but if you watch your video closely, you almost get to 1.5 turns of opposite lock.

Get any car that sideways and you're gonna be required to crank the wheel that much or more to save the slide (good job BTW).

So no NSX owners like rain lines?

Reminds me of the R&T P.S. picture many years ago showing a guy standing on the side of the road looking at his wrecked Ferrari up against a tree. The caption was, "Good tires," mused Bob, casually lighting a cigarette, "But certainly not great tires."
I remember that that R&T PS!! haha.

They are quick when new but they heat cycle out and fall off like a brick with plenty of tread left. I may lose a tenth with Dunlops but by the end of their life they are *seconds* faster then ad08's that are similarly used.
I don't seem to have had the drastic loss of performance of the AD08s that you have experienced. YMMV.

You will be just fine for that event. They mostly heat cycle out, so if you do a ton of track sessions on them with and get them hot, then cool etc... they have problems after you wear them half way through.

I don't think you will be putting enough heat cycles or wear on them in 1k miles, I am sure they will be awesome for your event.

If you wanted to use a set of street tires mostly on the track over many sessions/days then the Dunlops are more consistent and faster for the 2nd half of their tread life (in some cases dramatically more so) while the AD08's are good for a tenth or two early on.

Much appreciated! By the way, I just now managed to get a championship Mexican navigator who has agreed to go with me in the event. So, when he says, "Mas rapido, cabeza gallina!" I'll have confidence that the tires won't be the limiting factor

My experience with them is not like that... they lasted for quite a while & didn't heat cycle out like they did for you....

and I pounded the poor tires... lol
