best radar detector for nsx

I have the passport 8500 x50 and the V1.
The V1 does have a few more false signals but it is a BIG advantage knowing how many and what direction the threats are coming from.
I think the V1 is better and the one I wish I had two of.

These post are making it easy for you to decide .....huh !!

I also have both the passport x50 and valentine 1.......the valentine is in my bmw 850...and passport X50 is in the NSX.....I personally like the passport
x50......the directional vector in the valentine doesnt really matter that much to me... if i am flying on the road..i will slow down once the radar kicks in..no matter what direction....

But like Ken said......try both out and see which one you like better, and return the other one before the 30 day trial period.

My connection is that I have owned a V1 since 1997 and I have been ticket free since then.
My question was much more specific in that, do you have any direct affiliation with the company?

The V1 "bogey" counter feature is invaluable. I know without this feature I would have gotten at least one ticket on my last road trip with the X.

I have no affiliation with Valentine 1 (other than as a very satisfied purchaser, owner, and user of one of their radar detectors), and I have observed the same apparent bias in the postings on that website.

It would be nice to see a side-by-side comparison test of the top radar detectors by a respected, unbiased source. Car and Driver runs them every 3-4 years, but it's been a while since they published their most recent one (in February 2002, won handily by the V1). Hope they do another one soon...

Motor Trend Testes the Passport, V1, K40 and many others. I have the following:

K40 in the NSX
V1 in the M3 with stealth mount and Invis1 Mirror
8500 x50 in the S-Class
Bel 985 in the RX330
Bel Pro RX65 in the Dakota

I can I like the K40 the most. With Lidar, and everything... its simply the stealthiest setup, and works extremely well. The K40 in the M3 is just as good, without the lidar. The stealth mirror makes it great. The other 3 seem like a toss up. They have more features, but no one really uses it or cares to. Honestly its more of a bells and whistles thing then anything else. They do a decent job, and I've bought all 3 of these second hand from a friend who tries it out thinking he will return it in 30 days, and gets stuck with it. He is too quick to read the reviews and beleive them.

For me and my NSX its either K40 with Lidar or V1.

I have a K40 in the NSX and a V1 in my truck. The K40 is the best in stealth because you can't even tell it's in the car, but I find that the K40 is practically worthless in or around a city as it picks up EVERYTHING regardless of sensitivity setting. When it goes off so frequently you tend to start ignoring it which leads to a ticket eventually. On the other hand, I love the V1 as the logic circuitry eliminates most of the false bogeys. I had another detector in the past, highly rated, but the V1 is the best by far. You won't be disappointed.

I have K40 in all NSXs I owned. It is a bit over priced, but for stealth installation you can't beat it. I think the V1 is a better unit, but here in VA radar detectors are illegal.

I don’t want to keep removing it from my visor every time I get in and out of my car or get stopped by a policeman.

The remote V1 set is really cool, but my K40 has not let me down yet.

For all who have K40, send the control unit back to K40 for the new controller that disable the x band in the city.

RaDaRkInG, Do you work for Valentine? You are on most every automotive and radar detector forum and all of your posts are talking up the V1. Seems a little suspect that you only go to forums to talk about about one thing. Anyone that is curious, google search his name. Kind of interesting.

Why I asked the question - methinks this is even Mike himself.

If you live in a place where radar detectors are illegal, like me, the best range and accuracy don't equal the best radar detector.

The best radar detector for me is one I can use at the flick of a switch without detection.
hummm

How will the cops know that u have one?
Does cops have a detectors for cars that may have a radar detector?

I think Virginia is the only place where they're illegal.
The main thing I have to deal with is the cops physically seeing it.

Radar-detetor-detetors do exist, but I don't know they work against things like the V1.

I use a Passport 8500 X-50. Since I also have the ZR-3 Laser Shifter, the two units work together and if the Shifter detects an evil laser gun it lets you know it's doing it's thing via the detector's display. Using the 8500 with the ZR-3 also effectively hard wires the 8500, eliminating the need for the lighter plug.

I'm running into laser more and more, not only here in Florida but highway patrols in other States are using it more and more as I've discovered on a recent drive to NYC and to The Dragon. Investing in a good laser jammer is probably a wise idea. They are legal.

Depending upon the detector detector, they either work poorly or wickedly well.

The original RDDs were VG2 units. They were so so at the time, crap now. The VG2s emmitted their own signal, which could be detected by the RD also (passport, whistler, plus a few others worked this way). So when the VG2 was detected, it shut down power to the RD and thus no leaky signal could get picked up by the cops. VG2s could detect the RDs long before the RD detected the VG2, but chances are that the RD shut down before the cop figured out which car it was in. A V1 could be detected within 50 or so feet. WHich means you had to drive by the cop.

Then Spectre showed up. The latest iteration of that detector detector finds everything except the Beltronics STi. Cops here in Ontario have them en masse and should you drive down a 4 series highway here with a detector (excluding the STi) you stand a reasonable chance of loosing it and getting a fine.

The good news is that there are very few speeding traps in Ontario. I can drive from Toronto to Ottawa (4hrs) and chances are very good that I will see none, for either direction of traffic. Which is why average speeds here are about 85mph on highways like the 401. Everyone drives that fast. The police however do pace quite a bit with their radars off.

The Beltronics STi's leakage is non existant, so they cant pick it up.

thx Bel

I have had an old ass Bel for about 7 years and have never gotten a ticket with it. I bought a Escort 8500 x50 and have gotten a pile of tickets in the last year. It is a piece of sh1t. I am probably going to get a Bel 985 or 995 b/c they have done me right in the past.

No experience with the V1 or K40 but the Bel's seem to do 98% of the performance for $100 less.

Just my 2 cents.

hi all, i need some advise on putting the v1 on my visor, will it's rear antenna see through the rear window of the nsx being on the visor thanks..........bill
