there's ways around having to stay connected to their servers Im sure.

maybe hardwire the thing to your Navi in your car instead of having to use their servers then it would be free. LOL

subscription? how much a year i wonder??
hope it aint no 79.99 a year, if it is i think i'll stay with my V1.

Sorry, I will take a V1 over that any day. And if you need a data connection at all times, good luck talking on the phone while driving if you are on Verizon or Sprint.

any of you guys get tickets via Laser gun which is an instant on and off with sniper-like accuracy.

that means that by the time ur detector goes off for laser, if it does then it's too late to react.

I rather have it go off in the traffic ahead of me, get the memo and adjust accordingly.

If I'm hauling ass on the road with my blown GTO/NSX making disgusting power for the streets I'm not texting or talking on the phone.

You still have the actual radar detector working... it's not like you are dead, you just don't have that alert while you are on the phone. But I am not even sure about that. The Data may update every so often, I doubt it is in need of constant flow. Most apps are not. You have to use this and find out what happens but I am pretty certain they have thought of this scenario.

The police in Austin occasionally use laser. Remember - laser has to be precisely aimed and is always used by a stationary police person. In Austin it has always been a motorcycle guy. If you are in traffic, you will still get warning scatter from the vehicles in front of you. The warning will be shorter than you get with Ka. If you are alone on the road, you are highly vulnerable. Laser will get you instantly.

(based on my V1 experience)

I use an escort/passport Solo S2, it works just as intended.
Best of all it's portable & uses batteries so no messing with wires. Might be high maintenance but i only turn it on when needing to pick up some speed.

My understanding is that battery powered units have a much shorter range to detect the cops.

Can you post links to your research?

I have both 8500 and V1 and I woudl take the V1 everytime.

Why? So if V1 tells you that the cop is behind you, you can speed away?

Doesn't really work that way since I've see speed traps that deal with that where the cop up ahead has instant radar or laser turned off just for folks like us.

the best radar/laser detector is one that is the most sensitive and has the greatest range which would exceed the cops detection range so you can react in time.

No, because my escort has tons of issues with false lasers and has needed to be sent in 3 times for calibration service costing me at least another $100.

V1 has not cost me a dime and never has any problems.

OK. You may be having bad luck with that particular one.

Both my 8500 and Bel 965 (one in truck and other in NSX) have worked flawlessly.

I have had two. I had problems with my first 8500 and they upgraded me to an X50. Still having problems to this day. In fact, I finally turned off the laser because I can't take it any more. It is the most annoying noise ever.

There is no 'best' detector, and there is a great degree of bias from owners of certain detectors. I own a V1, with this month's minor software update, an Escort 9500iX, and a Beltronics STI driver - they're all very capable units, and owning any one of them will provide adequate warning and defense against radar-based threats.

There are some particularities with the NSX; if you are using a navpod with a screen, and a V1 rear-mounted with a remote display, the V1 will get false positives for laser off of the navpod; if this is your situation, something like the K40 Caliber or Beltronics integrated unit are better options.

For a complete defense, a laser diffusing system should also be included; there are great 2 and 4 sensor units from Blinder, or there is an available upgrade with the K40 caliber / Beltronics Plus Package for integrated systems.

To finish with a slight degree of bias, I prefer the V1 and STI Driver.

I have a Passport 9500i, and it has paid for its self many times over. I like the GPS feature as it remembers false alarm locations and adjusts the sensitivity to speed you are travelling. The one time I was pulled over by a cop, it gave me enough warning that he didn't have enough on me to issue a ticket. The cop was behind me and the detector rear sensor did a perfect job. I also like the fact that it is constantly reporting the speed you are travelling.
the only ticket I ever got with the NSX, I didn't listen to the Passport and there was a photo radar sitting at side of the road. It told me it was up ahead and I didn't pay attention.

are radar detectors legal in Montana and Colorado?

Radar Detectors themselves are illegal only in Virginia and on US Military bases; it's not legal to install a detector on the windshield in California or Minnesota.

There are several laws against using them in commercial vehicles (trucks), but you're good for private use in most States, including Montana and Colorado.

I believe radar detectors are legal in Colorado, but laser jammers are not. My main concern is laser warning, as that is how they really get you. I think most detectors will give you adequate warning of radar, but laser is tougher. Which detector is best for picking up laser scatter from cars ahead?
