best radar detector for nsx

The forums over at www.radardetector.net are pretty active. The one dedicated to laser jammers is here. There is a sticky thread discussing the current legality of the devices.

There is Federal law governing their use, this why States and local municipalities are free to pass their own legislation. If there was a Federal law making them legal, this would trump the States much like the Federal law allowing headlight modulators on motorcycles does. But the Feeds haven't ruled on laser jammers one way or the other.

I guess you didn't bother to read your 8500's owner's manual. When you set the display to "expert mode" you can track and see the signal strengths for up to 8 radars. I also disabled the X detection on mine since it's not being used for anything but supermarket doors. :)

The V1 can display 9 sources at one time of any band and 50% of the X50's display is devoted to X band which is rarely used so it can only display 2 K and 2 Ka band sources so the V1's display is the clear winner. I love how you hate on the V1's arrows when you bought your X50 to save money so you have to try an justify it.

This is the reason the V1 owns the X50 every time.

V1 Black Magnesium, X50 Silver Plastic
V1 smallest and lightest, X50 not
V1 2 antennas, X50 1 antenna
V1 wins X band, X50 doesn't
V1 wins K band, X50 doesn't
V1 wins Ka on 2 of 3 Ka frequencies, X50 doesn't
V1 9 bogies (any band), X50 8 bogies (4 X, 2 K, 2 Ka)
V1 arrows, X50 no arrows
V1 detects laser from 1/4 mile away when vehicle in front shot, X50 doesn't
V1 detects Laser Atlanta laser gun in stealth mode, X50 doesn't
V1 detects instant on radar 100% of the time, X50 detected it only 56% of the time.
V1 Real concealed display, X50 has "dumbcord"
V1 comes with visor mount and hardwire kit, X50 doesn't
V1 best windshield mount, X50 bounces around with a flimsy mount
V1 makes only one radar detector, Escort makes any kind you want depending on how much money you want to throw away.
V1 chosen #1 by most high performance car sites by 70% to X50 30%
V1 best resale value and has been #1 for 14 years, X50 NOT

I didn't buy it to save money, I bought it because it integrates with my ZR3 Laser Shifter. The real world performance of the 2 detectors is virtually identical so a few feet here and a few feet there don't matter. At least with my system I can kill most laser guns not just detect them. If Valentine made a laser shifter that integrated with a V1 would I consider it? Probably. I've owned V1s in the past but got tired of the constant upgrades and having to send the thing to the factory.

I love it how you show up only when radar detector discussions kick in and how you go around from board to board promoting the Valentine One Mike. Really you are nothing more than a vendor pimping your product every time and you should be banned.

I am glad you love your ZR3 but it doesn't jam very well so who cares if it integrates with your X50. It failed to alert or jam the Laser Atlanta laser gun in stealth mode. It couldn't jam the Stalker LZ-1 and it barely worked on the LTI Ultralyte LR. It could jam 2 of the 4 laser guns, the Kustom Prolaser III and the Laser Atlanta Type S but not in stealth mode. I hope that integrated system is worth it for $499.95 MSRP plus whatever you paid for the X50:rolleyes:

Mike, when are you coming out with a unit that is SPECTRE III invisible?

I payed MORE for my STi than I would have for a V1, JUST because its SPECTRE III invisible.

I'll find the link but the cops are handing you a line of bullshit. Laser jammers emit light, not an RF transmission and are therefore not currently enforced under any FCC regulations. As far as I know they are only enforced on the State level with only Minnesota and Utah having passed laws banning them.

I called a police traffic enforcement division who is doing some research on this. I'll get back to you.

As for RaDaRkInG defending or promoting his product here I think it's great. More should do this. I like hearing from the horses mouth instead of the other end.

...a person's instincts are to immediately hit the brakes when the detector sounds it's alarm. Brain hears detector go off, brain sends signal to right foot to hit brake pedal. Period.

I would never hit the brakes when a detector goes off. That pretty much says, "yeah, it was me, over here!".

If you're able to slow down to a legal speed before he can lock onto you you're not going to get pulled over because your brake lights are on. That's just plain silly.

May I suggest using the hand brake to scrub off a little speed? I've been doing it for years and it's really second nature to me; When I spot a speed trap I automatically grab the hand brake. (You must also keep the thumb button depressed to avoid locking your brakes, of course. That is also now an automatic thing for me.)

A few years back I was driving my MR2SC from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. Just before I hit Boulder City I passed an Acura Integra. Now, I had no interest in racing and wasn't trying to prove anything ---I was just driving "briskly"--- but the guy in the Integra was one o' those guys who just didn't wanna be passed, so he tried to make a race of it. I didn't go for it, just maintained my brisk pace. We were neck and neck, rounding a sweeping curve in town, when we ran smack up into a cop that was sitting in the median. I grabbed my hand brake to scrub off some speed and Mr. Acura Man (as my then-girlfriend always remembered him) mashed the brake pedal, which illuminated a beautiful crimson *GUILTY* display across the back of his car. The cop slid in behind us and ---SURPRISE!!!--- pulled over the Integra, even though I had exited the sweeper at a faster rate of speed. The hand brake habit clearly paid off that time.

Re: girls gone wild

Radarking's posts are now dead to me!

I think he may have had some good points; too bad I neither remember, nor care what he has to say anymore.

yuk-yuk I remember this thread - mostly for how it wound up with accusations of radarking being Mr. Valentine of V1 origin.

Since you asked, I'm happy with my Valentine One. Now that I have had the directional reception capability (front-side-rear) I cannot not see returning to anything else.

+1 for the V1. It does beep an aweful lot though. It would be nice if it had that GPS stuff built in to ignore the same false alarms you drive through every day. However when it goes off in a spot it normally doesn't you know something is up... 10 seconds later a cop comes around the corner in the oncoming lane, well after you've slowed down. I've lost count how many times that thing has gone off and saved me before i'm even within visual range.

I vote for the 9500ix.

Not only does it allow me to mark by GPS any speed traps, I've downloaded the national speed traps along with the redlight cameras. So, it notifies me when I'm about to come up on one. I also like how it tells me my exact speed the moment it starts to beep.
I drove to Dallas 2 weeks ago and the thing worked beautifully.

I am leaning toward the 9500ix as well. From everything I have read, all the top end detectors have matched or come quite close to the sensitivity of the V1. But they all have added feature sets that the V1 lacks. The false reading lockouts and the GPS speed notification are really great to have, and the speed trap, red light camera databases are an added bonus.

On another note, where is the best mounting position? I'm assuming the top of the windshield right next to the rear view mirror is the optimal location. Where do you guys mount yours?

I have a 9500ix and i love it.

bought it off craigslist with a 3 year subscription. great investment. I will say it saved me

does the 9500 integrate with laser jammer?
i really have a serious problem deciding on a product although i am way overdue for a new fuzzbuster.
thx

I would spend some time on Guys of Lidar's website, they seem to have pretty good reviews. I ended up with the V1 / Laser Intercepter combo and it is very nice :)

Had my V1 for about 6 years now and you would have to pry it out dead hands. It has saved me countless times. It's ability to pick a real threat out of the clutter and then point out the direction it is coming from is priceless. I have never upgraded my software or hardware and don't think I will as it works great just the way it is. The upgrade deal isn't that bad though, send in your old unit and $229 and they send you a new unit next day, pretty reasonable sounding to me. To be fair I have not tried the latest offerings from the competitors and am basing my opinions against the other units I had 6 and 7 years ago before purchasing the V1. They were so far behind that it was almost a joke to compare, today might be different but I still don't see anything that would make me even consider switching. I live in Canada and have no connection whatsoever with Valentine, I am just a very satisfied long term customer.

Does anyone have experience with the new Escort Passport iQ radar, laser and GPS system? I understand it just came out and and overdue to buy a system. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

I just talked to a tech at Passport about the IQ. This is the first gen. Second gen to include bluetooth for your phone and fm modulator for your radio. subscriptions need to be purchased in order for updated maps for red light and speed cameras. I say wait for the next gen.
I had a Garmin GPS in Great Britain that had all the speed cameras on it. This was brilliant as the Brits say. This is a great addition to a GPS and to add Radar, the two tools together can only be more goodness.
