Battery life - and the 'alarm'

About 2 weeks ago - I parked my NSX in my garage and locked the doors. Today [Tuesday] I decided to take it for a short drive just to 'keep things going'. [while I wait for my new tires to arrive] Unfortunately - the battery was too 'weak' to turn-over the engine. My question is - is it unusual for an NSX's battery to lose THAT much 'energy' just after sitting idle for 2 weeks with the alarm ON or does that mean I need a new battery?

AND....if YOU are going to 'park' your NSX for an extended period of time [2 weeks or more] would YOU do anything special?? [like disconnect the battery - leave it unlocked - or whatever]

Thanks,
Craig!!

No, it is not unusual.

That's possible too, though - particularly after it's been run down. You might want to have it tested. (Or, you might want to jump the car - don't forget the terminals in the engine compartment - and drive a while, and then just keep an eye out to see if the battery holds a charge.)

As stated elsewhere, I have installed one of these and make sure I plug it in any time the car is going to sit for more than a week.

The car should start even if you leave it for three weeks with the alarm on. How old is the battery? They last about five years but some go in two or three and some last ten years depending on the demands placed on the battery.

i only drive my nsx during the summer and occasionally in the winter when the roads are clean. When the car is in the garage i just leave it with the doors open and alarm off but last year my battery died and i replaced it with a low resistance spiral cell design battery ...this battery is lighter then a lead/acid battery and is completly sealed and can be mounted in any position.i paid 80 bucks for mine and it comes with a 5 yr warranty....the optima battery is the same thing but you pay more for the name.Reason why i got this battery is because its designed for quick charge up ...a few times i did not plug my battery tender in and it went dead ...but it only took about ten minutes for the battery tender to give it enough charge to start the car.

This really depends on what kind of alarm you have. Some alarms have battery saving features built in. The longer you sit the less current they use, to a certain extent of coarse.

My NSX has a Clifford 600 alarm with some extra option. When I cambe back from a three week holiday the car started without any problems at all. I have to admit that I did expect it to turn difficult but it was no problem at all.

Same alarm, same experience. No problems. Even after extended time in the garage.
