Audi R8 5.2 V10

You know...as much as I love and respect the R8, I don't understand why anyone would rather pay the premium that they go for instead of picking up a used Gallardo. :confused: To each his own, I guess.:smile:

+1. Gallardo looks 10 times nicer than the R8.

That is certainly a good arguement. Warranty maybe.
 
I think the R8 is an absolutely stunning car. At $142K it's comparably less than the $90K price tag dealers were asking 91 NSX. The styling is a bold move away from the styling of the Lambo (although it's stunning as well). Seen on the street it stance is masculine, wide and stops traffic. Way out of my price range, 17 years ago I swore I'd have an NSX someday. Someday I'll have an R8.
 
I am considering of purchasing one. This purchase is relied heavily on its reliabitlity. I don't want spend alot of money to fix it down the road rather driving it, such as Lambo and Ferrari. The question is and I hope someone can answer - how reliable is the car and I know it is designed for daily driving, unlike Lambo and Ferrari? Will it be like NSX?

91 NSX MSRP was $60k, not $90.

However, I do agree with how stunning the car is, too bad no one will buy it at today's economy. I'll be surprise if Audi even keep that car in production after next year.
 
IMO the R8 looks better than the Gallardo. The only thing that has steered me away is the low 420 hp. Now that is has 520 its the car it should have been from the factory.

I do agree that the price is kinda high for what you get. seems like it should be like 100-120k.

The R8 V10 will be available in Germany starting next spring with a base price of EUR 142,400 (approx $180,000) USD


Lotta coin for an Audi ....Even a nice one like this.

I agree.

I would have a hard time with a ' new - improved NSX ' for more than 125K-150K.

A large part of the NSX's appeal comes with it's affordability compared to F-cars or Lambos. You can get a lot of Porsche for $180,000 , but that much for the sister car , an Audi ? I don't think so.
 
Same reasons we use to defend our poor nsx when people wonder why would anyone pay xxx amount for a used honda with a tiny 3.0 V6 making only 270 hp. Especially when for that price you could get a vette with xxx hp etc etc etc.

yup, thats why I bought a Gallardo, the dealer markups were insane....and I wouldnt expect anything different on this...
 
walking down the street today I saw an R8 stopped at the light. It didn't have the ugly side black thing. It looked pretty rad. It looked like the future.

They do look awesome in person. So much different than seeing them in pics. And seeing one driving is even better. I was in the same boat as most people - why not just get a used Gallardo. I'm not too sure which one I would go for now. I would definitely have to drive both to figure it out.

It's definitely pricey! I know the 91 NSX listed at $60K but you couldn't buy one for that when they first came out. Demand was so high, most dealers added $30K markup.

I can say for Audi, I've owned two A6 4.2's. A 2002 and currently a 2005. As far as reliability, prior to 2005, they didn't have the best track record. Prior to releasing the new models in 2005, they made a radical change in reliability. They moved up to #2 in least amount of repairs. In 60,000 miles other than routine maintenance, I've replaced one fuel injector to the tune of about $300.
 
Each and every time I look at the R8, I am drawn to the egg-crate and slat front end, plus the slats near the tail lights. I think, self, what a b-tching pain in the arse that "latticework" would be to clean properly! :frown:
With all the bugs that would be committing suicide against the front end, it would take so very much time to clean, and I would constantly be dusting the slats.
On the other hand, might be a good problem to have in V-10 form? :wink:
 
With an MSRP of 108k-112k for the current V8, I would bet that within the next few years a nice R8 with low miles can be had for 80-90k or less, especially with the release of the V10 next year. At that pricepoint I would start heavily considering purchasing one, well, if financial circumstances permit. :rolleyes:
 
i am considering both...and ill tell ya the audi looks MUCH smoother rolling down the road....it pics the G looks better...in person its a tie, rolling the r8.
now if i could get the TDI !!!!!:eek:
 
I disagree.
I have seen R8's go unnoticed by people on the street. Even after I point out the car most people are nonplussed at my excitement.

The Gallardo NO ONE misses. It is seen, noticed, and gawked at.

Don't get me wrong, I like the R8, a lot, but it's looks are not as exotic as the Lambo's. Not many cars are.
