ARC thermostat.

I bought a Mugen version from King Motorsports and it sucked. Which means it didn't work. That said, maybe the ARC version does work.

The idea is that a lower thermstat will lower intake air temp and reduce the chance for detonation.

Nah, it wasn't that I couldn't tell a difference. It was that the car overheated b/c it wouldn't open. I put the stock version in and forgot about it. IIRC, I'm really not quite sure the Mugen version sealed properly.

Shawn did you ever have overheating problems at the track.

Yes, I did. Though I only used the Mugen thermastat on the street (didn't drive the car long enough). After the stock version was switched in, the overheating problem was solved.

At the track when I overheated and after inspection, I realized that my band-aid efforts to fix the smashed fins on my radiator weren't working. I then purchased a rad/oil cooler from Dali Racing and I haven't had an overheating problem since. The rad/oil cooler is huge! Think NASCAR.

I told you Steve! If you want to run with the BIG DOGS, you need a BIG ASS radiator! Those are some serious fans on that thing! Ponyboy, what was the price on that thing? Steve I would think that the new oem radiator definately helped. I would try some water wetter, and also the lower thermostat. (Will had the Mugen one in his Teg....worket great) A upgraded oil cooler is an extra bonus.

I still don't get why only a handfull of tracked NSX's overheat and a couple of them have upgraded radiators. What about the other 100 or so that track and have no issues with the stock radiator.

In my situation, my NSX had extenuating circumstances re: cooling. It seemed like I've always, in some fashion, been chasing an overheating issue. It stopped with the replacement of the stock and, really, damaged radiator. In some places it looked like someone had threw a baseball at it. So my decision was either an OE rad or an huge NASCAR rad. I decided I didn't want to worry about overheating anymore. Kinda like I don't want to worry about overheating my braking system anymore either.

Concerning the Mugen thermastat, it may very well be a good product and I may have got a defective version - wanted to say that.

Basically with the rad, I went to Defcon 5 and never looked back.

I guess I'm going through that now. I have owned the car for four years this month. Two years no problems at the track third year it started. So far I have a new SOS tank new thermostat-stock and of just last week a new stock radiator. My old radiator also looked like someone shot it with a 20 gauge from 50 yards. AOB did a sniff test-ok...tested the cap-ok...the car runs strong and fine on the city-highway roads so now I have to get back to the track and test it to see if the new radiator will help. BTW what did that huge NASCAR radiator set you back.

I have the ARC thermostat, on street turbo nsx. With some hard driving up hills etc.. temperature goes to 210F and most of the time it stays at 195F. I just got my car back last month so I only have like 200miles on the new engine. Air temp moves from 105F to 135F, but we have cold days in north east now 60-65F outside.

I wanted the rad/oil cooler so I think I paid around $500 bones for it from Dali Racing. But you may want to contact Ron Davis directly for comparision sake.
