AP-X NSX turbo system (angus turbo kit)

Re: DIY Turbo kit !

Hi Wil,

Can you provide more details of your methanol/water injection kit? Which band and model and its important features and functions.

Does it have the following features (especially your proprietary stainless steel tank):
  • retards the timing or reduce boost if the system runs out of fluid or detects an error

  • Dash light for system status and low fluid warning

Shaw , the methanol controller is the Varicool2 from coolingmist.com , it is packed with features , the dash light can be used , but if you check out the specs you will see that it has a digital display that displays boost and methanol flow ( if you use a flow sensor) . As far as failsafe , you will program the AEM EMS to run on what they call the nitrous map , thet way if meth flow ever stops , it will lower boost / retard timing / add fuel etc.

Re: DIY Turbo kit !

Wil;

Just re-read the thread and have a few Q's

Mention is made of blocking off the VVIS spacer to get 20 "free" HP with a turbo. Post 256. What is this and why ? Are there plates available or is this a no-brainer ?

I have a 91 with stock crap headers. I bought a nice set of ball joint headers but is it OK to sell these and put on 97 (?) and above stockers to save a few bucks ?

And I saw pics of the custom Meth tank but what comes with the basic kit ?

Can an AEM be set up to lower output in 1 st gear so as not to tear up the clutch ?

Finally what has to be done to get controlable boost PSI in the cockpit or should I set it on 11 and let me foot be the adjustment valve. My foot is not conservative so it may be out of tune.

The tight wad in me says to go with a used BBSC but my logic ( yeah right ;) ) is telling me if I do anything do it with what I want and be done with it.

The VVIS is only effective on N/A engines , to disable it simply unplug the vacuum line from it.

You can absolutely run the stock '97 headers , in fact the stock headers are better suited to high heat of the turbo since they are double walled and made to last a lifetime ( at the expense of a small reduction in flow - don't get me wrong they are still leaps and bounds better than your original ones)

The meth kit can be had with either the custom stainless tank or a plastic fuel cell.

The AEM EMS can be set to give gear dependant boost if desired

The AEM Ems can also be set up with an in cockpit boost switch for hi-low boost if desired.

My turbo kit has been quite well proven , you will recieve everything you need in a box , I know it will be 100% - my fear is that while a used BBSC may seem cheaper ( at first ) you will eventually come to find it is a money pit , not only this but it will not provide the same performance - period.

If you have any other questions please feel free to post here (so others can see ) or pm or call me

Thanks
Wil

Re: DIY Turbo kit !

I must say that all of you that have posted comments on this thread regarding Will/angus customer service and all of you are absolutely right.
His service is amazing and honest. I had dropped my car off at his shop and at with his guidance and recommendations my car has transformed into a well tuned SUPERCAR!!
I took advice on everything from changing my wheels to doing the forced induction and he has not let me down. Also a few minor tweaks and updates were done and they have made the car 100 times better.
Speaking of his turbo kit. It is amazing. I went with a low boost at 5psi with full engine management and intercooler and it just blows me away at how well the car drives and feels.
THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH TURBO!!!!!
We had dyno'd the car on a very hot day and the car recorded 305whp. Keep in mind it was over 35 degrees that day and the boost is set at only 5psi. I can only imagine how quick the vehicle would be when I increase boost later.
I would recommend this kit to anyone and would like anyone in the local area to go for a drive in one of his turbo powered nsx.
Way to go and THANKS

Re: DIY Turbo kit !

Wil, has great customer service. I would call him many times over the weekend both Saturday and Sunday, with questions. If he didn't pick up I would be called in less than an hour. Unbelievable support. Anyone who is on the fence about this kit, go for it. You will be very happy you did. Frank

Re: DIY Turbo kit !

Thanks for the compliments guys .

I would also like to add that Frank , Indy and doc tai are not running methanol injection. It is an option that a lot of people choose but is not required , it seems that some think it is needed with my turbo system and this is not the case.

Re: DIY Turbo kit !

The level of skills to set this up and tune it key-ready is way beyond my motoring skills, and in Northern-Norway the tune-shops are far from eachother:cool:

All i can do is drool.

There are other options for you , pm me if you want to discuss it.

Re: DIY Turbo kit !

Do you have a sound comparison of the Borla vs. Magnaflow exhaust? I assume the sound is the only real difference right?

Borla :

Magnaflow is a bit louder and more raspy , but still very nice too , it would be nice if someone who has one could post a vid? Dan? Frank? Indy? Anyone?

Is it just me or is that oil line dangerously close to the ground? I shudder to think what would happen if a rock jumped up and put a hole in it or you scraped it on a speedbump/driveway. All your engine oil would come shooting out wouldn't it?

It's not just you. I'd be overwhelmingly tempted to run that over the charge pipe.
