Another happy Flowmaster install

Hmm, interesting. :)
Hey just installed my Flowmaster and took a trip to Tail of the Dragon last weekend 4 Vett's and another NSX was with me (will have pictures soon). After hearing my exhaust they are all getting new exhaust before our next trip in two weeks, everyone said it was the best sounding exhaust they ever heard. We ran 318 curvs in 11 miles and I never got out of 2nd but nine or ten times and stayed in the rpm range most of the time between 4000 & 8000.The expereince reminded me of slalom skiing because of the rhythm you get into rolling on and off the throttle. The sport bikers even commented how sweet the car sounded echoing in the Smokey Mountains. If you want to test your cars capability go to http://www.tailofthedragon.com/Counting the days till we go back.

Do you two have the same muffler?

Kenny had 2 1/2' tubing and his sounded almost the same as yours.
Doesn't make sense...

Ron,

It may be hard to hard to tell a part between Conrad's exhust vs. mine. I will tell you that Conrad's is louder. Maybe you have to hear it as we drive by.......

Stephen,

Awesome setup. You have good taste. Much kudos to your installer.:D

Kenny,

Yes, but neither yours nor Conrad's exhausts *scream* as described earlier.
I would even go so far as to say not even close.

I rode in Conrad's car for quite some time while he wound it up a few times and I couldn't hear any screaming.

It just sounded good.

I would be very dissapointed to get a flowmaster installed expecting the same sound as what I've heard only to be dealt a screaming exhaust instead.

Just trying to ascertain why one exhaust would sound so different than 2 side by side installs that sound roughly the same.
Since 2 1/2" vs 3" tubing sounds very similar, what else is left?

The muffler!

or there is incredible subjective difference as to what a screaming exhaust is.

Stephen, I'm sure the durability within the muffler itself will be good. But what about the externals. I've seen a day-old Flowmaster muffler that already began rusting... although it was on a Celica... it had the same factory coating as our muffler.

Maybe "scream" is the wrong word to use. It seem to be at a higher pitch than mine... but it seemed as though Tan was revving it...

My concern with the flowmaster muffler is the in cabin droning/resonance around the 2-3k rpm range that no one talks about. I am suprised at how loud my exhaust sounds from the outside of the car versus the inside. It could pass for a tick above stock on the inside. I took of my RM Oval tip exhaust when the in cabin resonance drove me crazy. Driving home on the twisty road to my house, my car would be in the 2500rpm range. To avoid this, I either had to ship up or down to get in a more comfortable sound level(this would either be over revving or bogging, not what I wanted). I would check into this before proceeding further. JMHO

ANYTIME : You need to make your muffler tips to fit the 02,03 valance the only thing that detered my buying your muffler. I have the flowmaster also and I have no droning problem in the range you mentioned. The best test is take the wife on a 400 mile weekend trip. I did without any complaints about noise.

Exactly!!! The reason I won't buy that muffler is because when I do my 02/03 rear conversion it won't fit. Plus IMO it looks like a 3000GT mufler, I never thought 4 tips looked right on our cars.

Note: you can also see why I hate when people body color their center tail light, it screams 3000GT!!!

Was this with the cats off? I have the FM installed on my na NSX and some of the NSX guys commented, "It's not really loud!" We have a variity here; Comptech,RM dtm, Taitec, etc.
ps - I've yet to be ticketed, let alone pulled over in the NSX!! :D knock on wood....
Hey NSX FoYoAss hows things going in HotAssHouston?:D anyway back to the subject. Yes the Flowmaster screams like a banche in V-Tech mode and whoooooo baby how sweet that note is. As for normal driving I find it tame compared to the redneck pick-a-me-up crowd:( ....BTW your X is looking great!!!!!

Can someone please ....pretty please post a sound clip of the flowmaster (or point me to where there is one). I'm getting ready to get one made. Thanks in advance :)

Heh JadKar, I would be happy to let you hear my exhaust, just private me and I will give you my phone number then you can listen to it over the phone. That's the best I can do for now.

Tan, I understand that Flowmaster will be releasing the stainless version of this muffler in the near future. Doesn't help you for now but thought you might want to keep this in mind.
