'95 Autox build

Decided the other day to enter a car show, why the hell not. I bought the car to have fun and do what I can with it, so this is just another thing to check off the list of things to do with it. First time entering a car show, didn't expect anything. I asked some friends what I should do for this car show deal. I was told I should pop the hood. I did, and I think it won everyone over. I won best exotic at the show, wahoo!

Nice work! where is this at?

This was at ASM Performance in Hanover.

Update now that autox season is in full swing! Did back to back autox's this past weekend. Car ran great both days, no problems at all. Put down some solid times compared to some similar prep s2000's and NC/ND Miata's.

Saturday we ran with BMW club. Couple of top notch drivers in full STR prep cars. I sat around 1sec behind a couple of top level drivers in full prep STR cars this day. Pretty happy with that result.

Sunday ran with the local SCCA club. Big STR class with again a number of top drivers and cars. This time around I'm comparing RAW times since a couple of guys coned away their smoking best runs. With cones counted, I landed 3rd out of 27 in the class. Looking at RAW times, I would have been in 5th.

All in all, this car is surprising me. On paper, I wouldn't have thought it would be a great autox car and many people have also said it is a slouch for autox. But these past few events the car has proven to be fairly easy to drive and can put down some very solid times. I think these cars just needed to be set up right and placed in the right hands(not saying mine are right, yet lol). I still think in REAL STR trim(ie: putting weight back into my car and running a smaller front tire), the car might struggle but it has potential and certainly isn't slow.

what swaybar and tire pressures did you run?

Still haven't messed with the swaybars yet, but I need to. Just haven't had time to adjust the front bar yet. Tire pressures seem to be happy at 32f and 30r so I'll stick with that for now until I make adjustments on the bars. Rear camber seems to be about right as far as I can tell from pictures and tire wear. Front camber seems to be pretty good as well, not really getting any wear close to the edge of the tires. I could go lower in front pressure but think it'll oversteer a bit too much. If I stiffen up the front bar, I could probably drop the front pressure.

good luck the nsx likes the longer courses...the little twisty ones in small lots can be a handful

you won best show by putting the hood up. You put the wrong hood up man! - so they were blown away by that?; Imagine what you would have won if you had put up the engine hood!

That is some serious driving. The auto x's here are such tight mickey mouse size courses. They have mostly 90 degree and 180 degree turns which the nsx is terrible at. I can never hit over 50mph even on the straights.

Little update, not much has gone on these past couple events other than just driving and enjoying the car.

First good event to get a nice comparison against the other cars in the class(ND Miata, NC Miatas, S2000's). Dry and a little cool that day, course had a decent mix of fast and tight elements. Was able to take 3rd place out of 27 in the class. ND Miata that has been developed by Karcepts, a top level driver and helped a bit with this car, took first and NC Miata's surrounded me in 2nd and 4th. S2k's were cone dirty otherwise their raw times would have bumped me down the list.

Following event was a complete wash, literally. So it rained just before our heat ran. I've autox'd this car in the rain before, but, that was on a different lot. It did pretty well in the rain, I could handle the car just fine there. BUT THIS lot, when it gets wet, turns into a nice oily mess. It's almost like driving on ice. I knew this would be a handful, and it was. I spun on my first 3 out of 4 runs leaving me last run to tone things way down and just get in a decent time. Ended up with a clean 4th run which put me in a decent 6th out of 21 in class.

This past weekend's event went well. It's rained for the past couple of weeks and it was cloudy all day Saturday. Morning was pretty much a wash but the course dried up enough by the afternoon to get in a few decent runs with just a couple spots on course that were oily slick. I took fastest time of the day at the BMW club event by a good margin but that margin likely would have been narrowed had the NC STR Miata hot shoe had gotten a chance at a similar dry course that I got.

ALSO, at this event, the highlight of my day. This man came up to me and started talking about the nsx. Said he had a friend who used to have an nsx and mentioned his friend committed suicide and seeing this car brought back some memories. Asked for a ride along and of course I said yes. He had a hell of a time as you can see in the video haha. After the run he said he has cancer and he had such a rush and felt great after the run. So glad I'm able to share the experience of this car with others. Crank up the volume if you want to hear his comments throughout the run lol
Sorry for the fast frame rate. Just got this new gopro and didn't realize what it was set on.
**profanity in video lol**

I STILL haven't had a chance to play with the front bar settings. I hope to do so at one of the next events. Just a lot going on lately with purchasing a home and work commitments that I've just enjoyed driving the car rather than tinkering with it lately.

Glad I found this thread. Looks like your having a blast and slowly setting up your car as you learn. I am finally going to do my first Autocross event this weekend. I am just hoping to be able to remember the course as a starting point. Look forward to more videos and updates.

make sure you get there earlier enough to walk the course
