Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

I wonder just how accurate this test is?

Copy and paste from the test institutions:

The Commonly Confused Words Test

Good communication is not necessarily about using an expansive vocabulary. It is about properly using the words and punctuation you already know.

This results of this test will reflect your level of appropriate word usage. Have fun!

FYI: I have been receiving emails from people stating that my test is biased towards "British English" spelling, and others have said I am biased towards "American English" spelling. On the contrary, some of the questions have multiple correct answers, so don't fret if you think there are some "American" answers and some "British" answers. This was done so that it doesn't matter where you live, you will still receive the same score. :-)

So, what do the test results indicate, that all the scores are reversed? I answered each question in section A with the correct answers listed on the answer sheet, yet I only scored a 57% in that section.

What am I missing?

You missed one of my previous posts (No. 67) where that is explained.

You scored 93% Beginner, 93% Intermediate, 87% Advanced, and 77% Expert!

Alright, I'm a genius :) I think a lot of people would argue that designation.

NSX-Racer, your results were pretty good, considering that you live in Germany. I was born and grew up in Germany, and didn't move to the States until I was 19. Back then, I probably would have failed this test miserably. Being immersed in a language makes such a huge difference.

And, to contribute to the rant, here are some that bug me:
I am for sure about that.
I aksed him. OR I axed him. (this is more of a spoken mistake, so I don't know how they would spell it.)

A lot of the ones that annoy me were already addressed in the quiz, or by someone in this thread.

You scored 93% Beginner, 93% Intermediate, 87% Advanced, and 77% Expert

You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Yay for me, I'm uncommonly intelligent! However, give me a math problem and i'm screwed!

Damn, I suck. I guess that's what I get for not paying attention in english class. I guess it is a passing grade though right?

Advanced
You scored 80% Beginner, 93% Intermediate, 81% Advanced, and 72% Expert!

Hmmm....

I scored 80% beg.
93% Int.
81% Adv.
55% Exp.

99% higher than others in the four variables for my age.

In conclusion, I can talk more gooder than you!!!

I guess age factors into the comments a lot. I received nearly the same scores yet the website said I scored something like 9% better than others my age

'Bald-faced lie' is the correct phrase. It refers to a lie that is not hidden or camouflaged.

Just yesterday I heard someone from Washington DC interviewed on a news station missusing that phrase. He must have said "Bold faced" about ten times. sheesh

Hi

I went throug the 40 questions.

You scored 86% Beginner, 73% Intermediate, 87% Advanced, and 61% Expert!

"You have a good understanding of beginner and advanced commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of the beginner and advanced level questions correct. You didn't get as many of the intermediate level questions correct, but don't fret. This is not a bad score at all. Remember, these are commonly confused English words, which means most people don't use them properly anyway. You got a respectable score. "

Well as long as I am respectable I am happy. :)

I have noticed the word 'prolly' quite frequently on these forums. If, as I surmise, the worde should be 'probably', why do people use the former?

So I guess I should be solly that some use "bad language" here on Prime :)

Sadly, the list of exceptions to that rule is so lengthy as to make it almost useless.

What galls me these days are people who type "u" instead of you and "ur" instead of you're and so on. Oh well, the world needs ditch diggers and burger flippers too and these numbskulls are prime candidates.
