Advan AVS Model 5's, where are you at?

way back in my racing hart c2 (im sure some of those my age will recall these classic wheels) integra days; the hub rings helped a ton since my wheels were vibrating at over 100 kph (60 mph).

after the hub rings POOF... vibrations all gone.
Oh man.. RH C2s. You're taking me back! I had the 1st gen of those on my FC... Now let me take you back further.. I had the SSR Super Fins on my 91 Integra :) Remember those?

RE: the vibration, not trying to argue here.. but i'll venture to guess the hub ring allowed you to center the wheel while tightening down the lugnuts which you were not able to do before probably due to something improper with the lug nuts or lugs themselves. With the improper taper on the lugs (especially flat, or round seats vs. acorn/conical seats) it's very easy to tighten down the wheel incorrectly (i.e. cockeyed).

In any case, I really don't have a strong opinion on this either way. Be safe everyone!

We're the first gen c2 the c2000s (no centre caps with exposed lug design). If so I had those too and wrecked 3 of them in less then 2 months. The joys (and stupidity) or youth. Going to google the super fins :)

Old school!

will measure the hub for the other members tomorrow.

I broke several wheel studs not using hub rings, the risk is real though the chance of breaking all 5 for the wheel to fall off is more rare. Either way it was a PITA to install those studs!

I've broken studs too but it was due to over-tightening. Over time they do fatigue like all metal components under stress.

I ordered a set from SOS since I didn't want to buy two sets rings. They confirmed what they have fits the Model 5s which, thru deduction, must mean the Model 5s are 73mm bore.

My problems did go away after using the rings. For $20 there's no reason to discuss :) except to save our friend Synth ;)

The reason why I said that I wasn't too concerned is because I believe my particular set is NSX specific/hub centric. I could be 100% wrong, but I'm not sure even if a ring will work (hence the reason why I think mine are already hub-centric). I have project kics spacers in front/rear (both hubcentric), but will double check to see the fitment and if there is any space/room.

I think you already have rings in your wheels and are unaware of it. Those wheels aren't hub centric. Do you realize they come off with the wheel once they are in? In fact sometimes they can rust and whatnot and really become part of the wheel. Brake dust can make them look the same color, and you'd not even know you have rings. But you probably do.

I will double check, but for me to miss it is highly UNLIKELY. BUT... possible. I've run hubcentric rings on pretty much EVERY wheel I've owned... and I've owned a TON.

It's likely your spacers that are hubcentric but the chances of Project Kicks having a spacer of two different hub bores fitting a 73.1mm wheel hub bore would be extremely slim and coincidental. Would be great if they did though!

Well I ordered my rings. Kinda glad I originally asked the question.

Too bad they're too busy making big baller wheels that won't fit our cars... those do look nice.

Yeah they are a little behind the trends, but I just don't like any of the ADV1's. Add to that their extreme price tag and drama-filled history, and I really don't get it. I think HRE pays attention to the little details better even if they are more classic designs, they have been around a long time, and their customer service is top-notch. Volk Racing (Rays) has the most original designs out of any wheels ever IMO but don't utilize fully forged construction (which is ok bc they are priced accordingly!) and they are everywhere. Advans are nice too but don't offer the distinctive multi-piece look. They all have their little niche!

LOL hey I didn't hear any peeps when people got all sentimental about vintage wheels up in here!

The Mod5's look better than those HRE's... but posting them is another reminder of how wheel manufacturers are moving away from anything not modern. Most of the big named companies are no longer making 18"s which is sad to me. I see sweet wheels all the time in magazines, only to see the smallest size is 19"... some the smallest is 20"

I think HRE are behind the eightball again. There's a pretty decent movement towards "Hella-Functional" right now. Smallest/lightest wheels possible to fit the brakes with fat sidewall track tires. This usually starts at around 16", 17", 18" with 17" being most popular. Synth knows this...

Until something else pops up into the scene you really can't go wrong with timeless designs and appropriate sizing like Advans, Volks, BBS, 17,18,19 on the NSX. My vote goes to the 17/18 of course! but i'm biased :)

It's just the high end stuff that's coming in 19"+ now, and it's bc even family sedans come with 18" wheels now so any upgrade is going to be 19"+. It does suck for us but the NSX market is already tiny plus I don't see many NSXers buying these type of wheels anyways. Most gravitate towards purposeful, widely manufactured Japanese wheels and not bespoke auto jewelry type.
