Fabulous news!

Acura and IMSA have invited NSX owners to participate in an exclusive car corral and parade lap at the Sebring 12 hour race Saturday March 17th to celebrate Honda's 1st ALMS race. They will be fielding three teams that weekend in LMP2.

The event is limited to a total of 50 cars and 100 total participants. Special group parking has been arranged in the same area as the other car corrals (Porsche, Ferrari) and includes admission to Acura's hospitality tent with a catered lunch, a race day ticket, tours of the paddock during the race, and most importantly, a 25 car parade lap immediately before the start of the race which will be broadcast on national television. The Acura drivers will be making guest appearance in the hospitality tent to sign autographs throughout the race. One lucky person will have the opportunity to be IN THE PITS during a portion of the race and mingle with the team (raffled off, firesuit will be provided, over 18 only, closed toe shoes required).

The cost is $130 for 1 car and 1 person, $210 for 1 car and two people. Tickets are non-refundable, and are first come first serve until the event is filled. Until March 5th, I will be handling ticket sales and questions. After that date, you will need to contact Sebring ticketing directly.

If you are interestedin participating in this first time event, please contact me, Wei-Shen Chin via email at [email protected] or phone at 407-832-0176. Tickets will be issued in the order payment is received and will be mailed to you the week of March 5 (or, if requested, held by me to be given out at our caravan meeting point).

I've attached the tentative schedule. We are making arrangements to have two meeting points so we caravan down together and get escorted into the track and bypass the lines on US98. Stay tuned to this thread as the date gets closer.

Wow, that sounds REALLY intriguing. However, I just floated the idea past The Boss (it's her birthday that weekend), and considering I'm already committed to the Sunday March 18 to instruct at your wonderful Chin Motorsports HPDE event at Homestead, regrettably I'll have to say "no". (It pains me to have read this post. :frown: )

But if I had my druthers (and I do), I'll choose the Chin event.

Sweet!

I will be there with Dave in his Kaiser '97. WhoHoo, this is going to be fun!

OK, so she relented. This is the woman, when I was agonizing on whether I should buy the NSX in the first place (it's a lot of $, I already have an extra car, yadda, yadda) said "Would you just shut up and BUY THE THING ALREADY?!?"

She's the best. I'm on the list!! :-)

Wei-Shen,
Being 2 weeks away, how many NSX's are signed up? Are we anywhere close to 50?
Is the caravan driving down Saturday morning at O'Dark:30, or the day before?

I'm in also for 2!

WeiShin I've sent you an e-mail. Let me know where to send payment!

BTW how many are on the list for the parade lap? Is there space available?

P.S. Does this include pre race paddock access in addition to the tour groups?

Got it Koji.

UPDATE: Due to the quick sellout of the 25 slots, Acura and IMSA have agreed to increase the number of cars to 50 for the parade lap. The total for the hospitality tent remains at 100.

The ticket is good for the whole day and also gets you into the VIP viewing area at turn 17.

Dear NSXCA members:

Due to the VERY EARLY departure time of our caravan to Sebring, I've made arrangements for us to stay overnight at the junction of US27 and I-4 (Exit 55) in Davenport. That will give us a straight shot down south on US27 to Sebring in approx. 1 hour at that time of day.

Hotel:

Super 8 Davenport/Maingate South
I-4 exit 55

reservation taken by Chris Dunnahoe (evening/night manager)

We have 11 non smoking rooms booked under my name, guaranteed for $69.99 for one night Friday March 16th.

The hotel is next to a 24 hour Waffle House where we can all gather for breakfast. The tentative schedule is as follows:

430am breakfast at Waffle House
530am SHARP departure from the Waffle House parking lot
630am arrival at our Police Escort meeting point, Texaco station at Kenilworth adjacent to Sebring High School, 3303 KENILWORTH BLVD. SEBRING, FL 33870

I HIGHLY suggest that those travelling more than 2 hours to Sebring consider staying at this hotel overnight so that we can all arrive together. If you arrive late at the meeting point or miss the police escort, you MAY miss the parking and staging for the parade lap which must happen several HOURS before the actual event.

If you are positive that you will need a room, please email me at [email protected] to confirm by Friday March 9th or I will be charged for each room on the reservation. If we need more than 11 total, I can add rooms until that date.

We'll probably gather for a group dinner as well (probably at a nearby restaurant) on Friday evening around 7pm for those arriving early enough.

If you need luxury, the Omni at Champions Gate is 5 minutes and 1 exit away at $249/night.

I am definitely in and likely driving up that AM to be at the Sebring High School by 6:30AM for the escort. From West Palm its a straight shot up the Bee-Line but still at least a 2hr drive. If anyone else wants to meet by the gas station just before the Pratt&Whitney entrance and Moroso, let me know. My extremely understanding girlfriend Tanya and I will be leaving there at 4AM. Wash down your coffee with a redbull and you will be fine...

Pretty zippy schedule, but "Buy the ticket, take the ride..."

Cheers,

Jeff

I'll be there. Do you think that we could leave at 0430am?? The extra 1/2 hr of sleep would be me a lot of justice.

Mapquest is always longish on time, but even it says 2hrs to the Highschool... Plus it will be pitch dark out so likely not traveling at warp speed with all the wildlife out there crossing the road... I worked at P&W for a bit and there are plenty of things 'not fun to hit' if you outdrive your headlights... I am the last one to be pushing for a morning gig... In fact I'd probably be better off just staying up... as I can't stand getting out of bed... But 4:30 will be flirting with being late even if we have no issues come up enroute. Supposedly Wei-Shen is 'arriving' at the HS at 6:30... not sure what time he is leaving that rendesvous??? The only thing worse than getting up that early would be missing our window of time to get in the escorted line to the track because of some detour, etc. I haven't actually driven that route all the way to Sebring... If you think its shorter than 2hrs in the dark let me know!

Doc,
I don't know what time the caravan is going to roll thru Sebring.
I could meet you and anyone else @ the High School lot. Give me your time frame or PM me with you digits, hell come early and let's do breakfast.

...I haven't actually driven that route all the way to Sebring... If you think its shorter than 2hrs in the dark let me know!

When I used to drive to Sebring from Boca, it was just a tad over 2hrs, and that included traffic on the turnpike. I just spoke with a friend who does the dirve frequently, and he said it usually takes him 1:15hr from Moroso to Sebring. So I'm figuring in the dark, maybe some traffic near Sebring but highly unlikely, 2:00hrs max. If you feel uncomfortable with leaving at 0430am, then I don't mind doing the drive alone. I'll call you later to discuss this further.

Steve, thanks for the offer. PM me your number and we can talk next week.

This event sounds like it's going to be one heck of a good time.

From Moroso to Lake Placid (20 miles south of Sebring) is about one hour and fifteen minutes. I did this drive regularly when I had a lakehouse in Lake Placid. Doc, two hours would about right from Boca.

I agree with Jeff about critters in the night staring down the abyss of your headlights. I'd stay near the posted speed limit until dawn. After that, any speed is legal if you don't get caught.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this event. Doc, I was looking forward to joining you. It's been too long. Jeff, I'll catch you for a bite to drink at the YardHouse sometime.

If you see blue lights in the rear view, that's your green light to step on it!

Those little critters would make a great early morning snack. I'm going to bring my mini bbq and Peter Luger steak sauce.

It's been a few years there my friend. What color is your new NSX?? I think I may have seen you the other night, but I wasn't in my NSX.

I'll have to bring my night vision goggles.

Bee-Line Mobil mart (or whatever its called these days.. Just before P&W): Sat 4:15AM? Going once, going twice!

Does this mean that all 50 NSX's that sign up for the car corral / ticket / hospitality center thingie are in for the parade lap, or do we still need to vie for the spots and register, from other interested parties (makes, models, or other NSX's there for other reasons)?

Doc,

This is my third NSX is red! Ironically, red was never my first choice, but I tend to buy price, condition & miles. Nothing came close to this... a 1997 with 12,700 miles. The car had been hermetically sealed for another generation to admire. It doesn't even know what rain feels like.

At the risk of being called "Thread Hijacker!", I've seen this car in person and it is bee-you-tee-full.

XSNSXTC, is that dirt I see on the swaybar?!?
