A "Unicorn" is now mine...

First off on my wish list of needs...anyone know a good source for these items that doesn't charge as much as the car cost? :)

* NA1 wheel center caps with Honda "H" logo

* air bag cover for steering wheel

* Honda "H" logo taillight center plate

I'll even be interested in used parts of these...even if they need reconditioning...

I already know where I can find the most of the rest of what I'll need...

Congrats and welcome to the family:smile:

Congratulations on your great acquisition! I'm in full agreement with s2kNSX that you got the best color. Because it wasn't offered in 1991, you got the first model year of Grand Prix White.
Enjoy and try to avoid all the aftermarket. You own a semi-modern classic!

Enjoy and try to avoid all the aftermarket. You own a semi-modern classic!

...and I intend to honor the car as the classic it is becoming...

I'm thinking of only doing easily reversible stuff to create an NA1 NSX Typre-R "Commemorative Edition" car...kinda like the production versions of the 1978 Corvette Pace Car were commemorative copies of the real pace car they used at Indy.

Just add Type-R red Honda hood badge, Honda logo rear tailight panel, 7-spoke OEM 16"/17" wheels powder-coated white w/ Honda log center caps, Type-R steering wheel & Honda logo horn button, Type-R shift knob, red floor mats, and stock OEM seats done in red as opposed to red racing seats.

I just want the Type-R look & color scheme...not going to try to copy the whole car to the last detail.

Oh yeah...some more pictures...these are from the day last summer that I first saw her at a show...(alongside my still daily driver 5th gen Prelude...Type-R'ed out.)

...and from last night at a small meet...(sorry for the cruddy cell phone pics)

Congrats George! I'm happy that I was there to witness your "new owner glow"

Was I being a "blushing bride"? :D LOL!

Thank you...it was cool to have so many other NSXs & their owners around to share the moment with.

Congrats, my best bud just moved to fresco,tx I'll look you up when I visit. Would love to see that gpw in person

Good Job on your unique find! Any major plans for her (performance)?

Yeah...me an Jethro are gonna put a Hemi in it...with a super-charger...and nitros....then take it to the Cajun Nationals Drag event this summer.

Anyone know where I can finds slicks to fit an NSX?

TOTALLY KIDDING!

Planning to leave her as she is for now...I will likely look at intake & headers (ours!) and exhaust (Pride's!) down the line, but first 7-spoke OEM wheels (powder-coated white), re-configuring her to her true Honda identity ("H" badges all around), powder-coat the valve covers red, and maybe some red OEM seats & floor mats.

Oh, yeah...new rear tires soon (they came a bit worn down).

If you don't have a lead on any tail lights I have a friend that has a set sitting in his attic collecting dust. Of course it doesnt have the type R center. Feel free to pm me.

I want white:frown:

White is right! Errr....:redface:. GPW is my favorite for sure. Followed by the ever so popular red. As much as I love Imola Orange, I think I might get sick of it haha

How concerned are you about being accurate? It's possible to be very accurate fairly inexpensively with an NA1 R clone.

The NA1 R did NOT have red carpeting.

The NA1 R didn't come with red valve covers. It came with a manifold plate with a red Honda logo.

AS-Motorsports also carry the air bag that you want.

You can use these instructions to re-badge your center tail light with a Honda logo.
If you go with the JDM centerplate like the one in your picture it wont match your L & R tail light panels.

The NSX R centercaps should fit OEM 93 7 spoke wheels. You'll need to powdercoat the wheels to Championship White 08703-NH0AA-PN . You can get the true NSX R centercaps here but they are currently out of stock and Dali has some sketchy reviews on here: http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=1957
Maybe talk to AS-Motorsports and see if they can get them for you.
You'll need chrome lug nuts too. These are 12x1.5 and fit the AP1 S2000 and Integra and were a standard USDM OEM part.

A few NSX R parts actually made it into later production models. These are easily sourced. You can get the aluminum rear bumper beam and exhaust and headers from an NA2 for some nice weight reduction and the NA2 exhaust is a great power adder. You can get the mesh intake inlets from any North American Acura dealer because they were used on the Zanardi and 02+ cars. Zanardi can be ordered through any Acura dealer in North America.

If you remove the tape deck and stereo (there's no reason in 2012 to have a tape deck) you can get a carbon fiber delete panel. While you're at it, you could delete the antenna and fill the hold with this grommet. Part #82871-671-000
Delete plate here: http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produ...products/NSX/Honda/NSX-R/stereo-delete_plate/

I also recommend deleting your spare tire and bracket, cd changer and bracket, and tools at the same time. By simply deleting these items here you will be on par with Type S weight!

For suspension you might want to look at New Type S or Zanardi but most certainly you'll want the chassis bars for front and rear and the Type R sway bar in the front. You could go Type R suspension but it's very pricey and very harsh from my understanding. I'll know more in the Spring however because I'm going to get a chance to test drive before I make this decision myself.

The final piece would be to switch to the mesh engine cover but that costs a lot of cheese.
http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produ...e_products/NSX/Honda/NSX-R_mesh_engine_cover/

This is basically my complete formula for the NA1 R clone that I'm doing except I have the authentic Enkei NSX R wheels matched to Bridgestone Potenza RE11's. I'm still very surprised that I managed to get a hold of these and am eternally grateful to the seller who is an NSXPrime member. They are out getting restored right now.

Some additional things you could consider would be to change the door sills and the door tags , final gear, AC removal, TCS removal, but I'm not sure that I'm going to go quite that far myself. I'm leaving the interior alone for sure. I also refuse to alter safety features such as the side reflectors and the front bumper beam. Anyway things are coming along nicely.
We'll see.

That's an easy problem to solve. I'm quite certain there are many Formula Red owners that would love to trade for Imola Orange.

Thank you for the links & a good start on the formula. I will take much of this into consideration...but for now, baby steps. :)

One thing, I did not see the air bag on that AS-Motorsports site...got a link...& how much?

I know valve covers weren't red, but they look great done so (see below).

Carpet...you are right, I was thinking Integra Type-R...like my 5th gen Prelude is done in (also see post #18 in this thread...as well as below with the wheels & rear wing now done).

http://nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153099

I agree, that hood badge is correct...and better quality than the inexpensive ones on eBay...

Also...last pic is not of my car...but has the look I want. It's also the one with the red engine parts...it was for sale (still might be...), but has a salvage title...because of a blown engine...not body damage...or so I'm told.

It's a nice find and a nice car. Since it's all original I really think you should just keep it the way it is. Why do you want to put Honda badge on this car? Just keep it original. Once you start changing things the car's collectibility goes down the drain.

By the way, please PM me if you're interested to sell the bra and the side mirror covers, thanks.

Naw, that's not true. It can EASILY be switched right back to stock if he so decides.

Yeah even these can be easily changed back, what about accidentally scratches here and there while doing it. Also, Acura is a higher brand than Honda, not sure the purpose of downgrading the car's image.
