A note I found on my car.

I got my first ding on the very first day I bought the car and I was parking it properly (one spot). This time around if I see the parking spot just wide enough to fit my car I will take two spot. Blame it to the person who made the parking lot.

What if the car that you are going to park is a Ferrari or a Lambo? Would you risk your car to have ding on it.

For me it is simple. If you don't want a ding either don't drive the car or take two parking spots and take the curse from other people.;)

all of you gusy need to get a truck as a daily driver. :p

its nice not having to worry nor caring. :)

Haha! Hey, I have a Toyota truck too, but I don't regard it as a door bumper zone! I am careful with parking ALL of my cars... although I'll admit that the truck gets less fanatical attention from me.:)

You are right, but people dinging one's door and pretending nothing happened is not right either. In one case (2 parking spots) no harm is done to anyone, in the second case (dinged doors) you're left with a nice "souvenir" and the bill. In my case I ALWAYS take two spots, although I am considerate enough not to take the last two spots, OR the ones in front of a store. I ALWAYS park on two spots even if that's 50-100 yards away if I have to. No dings, no keyed doors, no "looks" from the others...
Two wrongs do not make a right. Taking 2 spots is just rude and inconsiderate. I don't care how you try to justify it, you are wrong, period. Driving a nice car does not entitle you special privilege. One car, one spot. By taking your car in a public lot, you assume the risks of getting dinged. You can try to park next to nothing or the island and this is what I do and so far so good.

haha, i used to wash my car every sunday, wax every other wash... now i just kinda wash it once a month... it actually feels nice

At NSX fiesta '02, I had the opportunity to drive a specially built (from the factory) NSX automatic with hand controls. The owner had only partial use of his legs.

I'd upload a picture, but I can't access my photo server from the connection I'm on right now.

The control was on the inboard of the driver side (near the shifter). You would pull back to accelerate, and push forward to brake. There was a brake lock button on the top, so that you could leave the brakes on without making your arm too tired having to hold it in position. There were also turn signal controls on the joystick. There was another one on display in the Honda museum in Motegi. Since it was a Honda factory piece, there was lots of attention to detail, in the typical Honda fashion. The foot pedals were also fully functional.

It requires a pretty fine touch to drive by hand, but I think if I spent more time with the car, I'd get used to it.

I can't remember exactly how it worked, but it looked similar to a motorcycle handle grip, on the left side, just inside the door, coming up, so that he would grab it like a joystick. If I remember correctly, it twisted (like the gas on a bike) and moved forward and back.

Quote from Huckster
my parking space next to my wife is much more dangerous than any parking lot

I second that.

I never said I want to be right. I just don't want any dings to my doors.

I do so with every car I own (4), not just the NSX. As long as people are unconsiderate enough to ding other people's cars, I will be just as unconsiderate to use two spots whenever I can.

hmm... Bust-Out the Flame-Throwerz...

Huckster is right, if you have a family, your own garage is the most dangerous place to park your car. BTW, I think that is a male that left you a note on perfumed paper, I'd be watching watching out for more than just door dings at that gym.

apapada and whiteNSXs,
I think you are missing the point. Regardless of right or wrong, the fact is that some people just do not react rationally.

There are some angry a-holes out there, and taking 2 spots can result in someone keying your car, dumping soda or a milk shake on your hood or roof (which will bake on while you're gone), deflating or puncturing a tire, etc. While avoiding door dings, you are potentially risking far greater damage.

If you have not had any damage done to your car when you took 2 spots, I claim you just haven't pissed off the right (or wrong) person yet.

Granted, there are people who may damage your car anyway, whether you park correctly or not. There IS a lot of anger, envy and pettiness out there.

The best case I heard of, or worse case :D is someone who was pissed at another owner, got on top the hood of the car and and pissed down the outside air vents. I only know of one case personally but have heard of this many times. How the owner of that car will ever get the smell of piss out of his air ducts is beyond me:confused:
Oh, the simple brake fluid on the paint is alwats simple and effective. That happened to my friend who wasn't double parked. He just had a nice car or pissed off the wrong person sometime earlier.

Everything you and other mention are prosecutable by law as vandalism. Dinging doors or double parking is not. I appreciate the advice. However I'm packing way too much anger for this and just watch me if I ever catch anyone do anything to any of my cars. No forget that. Let me catch anyone vandalizing anyone's car (even not my own). I promiss to replicate whatever he's done to the car on this person's face.

That's all nice and good, we all realize it's illegal to vandalize, but how often do you hear of anyone being caught? The problem is that it can be done in a second or two (except for the pissing in the air vents, that might take a little more time and effort), and they are on their merry way. It's one of those crimes where you have to get lucky to catch them.

And, technically, door dinging is illegal if you do it, and then leave (should fall under hit and run). Of course, I'm not sure who would prosecute that.

And, of course, last but not least, what you're talking about is called assault, and infinitely more serious than vandalism. No judge in the WORLD would accept property damage as an excuse for beating the crap out of someone.

Okay. I think you guys are overreacting...when the guy parked in two spots, he said that there were tons of open spaces.... so he's not cutting to the front of a long line, or whatever other analogy was presented. Two, there is a Ralph Lauren Blue for women (I got a sample in cosmo magazine yesterday). Finally, I parked in two spots at a mall in Michigan like a mile away at 2:00 p.m. on a weekday. No one was around - yet when I came out of the mall there was a teenager admiring my car. He said it looked great, but that I'm lucky my car didn't get keyed because I took up two spots. Hmmmm, strange because there still was no one even near my car.

Now, the kicker. My boyfriend parked my car in a hospital parking garage.. what was he thinking? He claimed that he parked it in a large spot away from other cars. Well, someone with a white car had not once, but twice dinged the passenger door. Two dents, each with white paint were deep into the passenger door. Clearly, it was on purpose.

It was this event that caused me to modify the car because I was going to have to fix the car anyway - it was no longer "original." I guess maybe I should thank that person because I wouldn't have a Comptech wide body kit if that person hadn't dinged my side door. ;)

I tend to park farther away in order to get a safer spot. I try to do the right side last spot thing too, although I also consider whether there are trees over the spot unless I am putting my cover on (tree sap and bird poop can be destructive too). So sometimes I am away from other cars but not on the end.

One interesting phenomenon I have noticed is that when I park out away from other cars, several people will then come park next to me. This occurs no matter which car I drive. I think there is a psychological thing where people see a car parked and think subconciously this is a place to park, so park there. Whereas if the car had not been there, they would not have parked in the empty area. I find it very interesting, and have seen it too many times for just being wise ass people.

I actually have magnet-lined rubber door ding prevention strips which I got for my Lexus, so in those rare occasions where I have to take any spot I can get, I can then put up a rubber strip on one side or both. But of course if you try to put them on the NSX, they fall right off -- aluminum won't hold a magnet. I laughed pretty hard the first time I tried it and it just fell right off onto the ground when I let go.

I forgot to tell that I also installed a Viper alarm. Anybody touching and the car alarm will go off. Most of the time I caught the culprit and shout at him. Being working out at the gym does pay off. So I built a reputation that if anybody mess with my car he knows who he will be dealing with.:D

Where do you buy these?

This would be an excellent thing to have for my non-aluminim bodied cars!

Such a simple idea, but never thought to look for something like that.

For some reason I'm prompted to tell my little airport-parking story.

We pull my wife's brand new diamond white pearl TL into an angled spot in general parking and we're rummaging around for something or other before we get out of the car. Up walks a guy on my side (our passenger side) to get into his shiny black Mercedes. *CLUNK* He opens his door, his goddamned Mercedes door, his own nice car's door, into the side of our car. He pauses, clearly aware that he did it. He then gets in, closes his door, and starts his car, apparently unaware (or uncaring) that we were there to witness what he did.

I mutter, "You fucker," and overtly open my door into his front fender. I then get out, and smile as he says, "Oh, how mature," and drives off.

It was worth the second ding in the paint.

I wouldn't do it again, though. It wouldn't have been worth getting shot or beaten up.

Anyway, never rely even on another adult in another nice car being careful. Parking next to a Mercedes certainly didn't help us at all.

And perhaps most importantly, the handwriting is definitely feminine, strong and attractive.

If I were you, I'd park in the same place another time or two, (one spot only this time) and leave a note on the windshield of your own...

"I've learned my lesson, can I buy you a drink?"

The gym is right next to a beauty salon, so it was highly probable it was a woman who wrote it (not to mention handwriting). I like that idea.. another note for a date.. funny. :D
