A different view of the Nordschleife

suzuka is a good track but bathurst is a great track as stated by many international drivers.
You would have to go there in person to appreciate the changes in elevation.

I'm familar with Bathurst. However, as far as great tracks are concerned, I'll take Aryton and Schumacher's opinion most of the time. ;)

What about spa?
Nurburgring,Bathurst and spa are probably the best 3 race tracks in the world imo.

Until I looked it up recently, I didn't realize how close Spa was to the 'Ring (geographically). I know there are several outfits that hold trackdays at both. I think next summer or 2014 I may try to work out a schedule that has me doing a track day at the 'ring one weekend and then a day at Spa the next weekend.

Somewhere in there a trip down-under would be nice as well, but the flight from the 'States...

as a side note, Suzuka, Tsukuba (just because), and Fuji would be a helluva way to see Japan, but also an expensive one I have a feeling.

We only live once.
If you can afford it you should do it.
I would love to experience all those tracks mentioned.
Also Phillip island where they hold the Australian round of the moto gp is a great track.
Very fast European style track.

Great videos guys!! The last one in the rain is :eek:

Btw, one of my goals in life is to rent a track day car and drive Spa(my favorite track) and the 'ring. IIRC.. there are a couple of track car rental facilities that let U rent from a basic caged hatchback up to a Porsche depending on your track exeperience and credentials!

Lots of favorite tracks in these posts. I think it is important to state if the judgement comes from having driven the real track or form watching your computer screen. Dare I say there is a huge difference. A good driver favors a technical track or one where a good rythm can be established (that's when you feel the consistency and can guage very small increments of improvement). Even a stupid oval can be interesting from that perspective. If you have driven the Ring or Spa I would be interested to compare experiences. The Ring is by far the most challenging but after having driven over 100 laps and trying for perfect lines and improve lap times I long after the thought of actually "Racing" on it, a totally different experience. That's why I made the original post on this thread

Interesting you say that. I got to drive Sebring for the first time last year. I had never driven the track in-real-life prior to jumping into a race-car that I'd never driven before and immediately driving into a live race. Actual racing is completely different from just lapping a track. The "line" through a turn becomes "wherever the other car isn't", so the perfect apexes that you practice go immediately out the window in traffic.

While video games do not do justice to reality normally, I found the thousands of laps I'd driven on Sebring in the various Forza games to be very valuable to just knowing the sequence of turns and where the track is skinny vs. wide, etc. The same was true at the 'ring. I could concentrate on what the car was doing and dealing with the bumps and g-forces because I had the sequence of turns (e.g. there is a right-hander coming up after this blind left) memorized from GT and Forza.

I dunno about while you're actually in those places (although I hear Lucern has a good night-life), but Italy/Switzerland sounds like a recipe for a Stelvio Pass drive
