So I'm about to do my 6-speed Trans conversion. Since my 5 -speed was grinding ever so slightly at high rpm shifts between 1st & 2nd, I did what most of us do and changed my tranny fluid over to the GM Syncromesh / Friction Modifier combo.

Well my new 6-speed is from a 2002 with 19,896 miles on it. So before I put this in the car... should I replace all the synchros? And what fluid should I put in it?

No. No reason to replace synchros, though I would deffinetly flush the fluid to get the break-in shreads out if it hasn't been done so.

Though in your case, I would put in the new MTL for another 5-7K miles or so and them flush it once more. Be sure to clean the filter which is a quarter-size hole cover on the driver side of the transmission with a 10mm bolt. Search for threads with pictures/more details.

Once you flush it again, put in a high quality oil. I recommend RLI oil, http://www.renewablelube.com. Terry @ www.dysonanalysis.com who is a tribologist is nuts over RLI. He feels it is superior to even the likes of Amsoil, Motul, Redline and others. Although I haven't tried the gear oil (since I'm planning on doing a rebuild on the tranny around 100k; currently has 90K) I will deffinetly afterwards when it breaks in.

I currently purchased some RLI oil for the engine and supercharger. I have data on M1, and will do analysis on Amsoil once I get the new oil, and analysis on the RLI once that's out. I will post the data. It's going to be at least a year since I don't drive it every day.

Good luck.
