A/C leaking! Is it serious?

Hello everyone, I would like to get some opinions while trying to find a local shop to fix my A/C problem. At first, the fan would only blow at max speed (typical problem). I really didn't mind so I let it blow at max. Last week, the fan totally died (after reading some threads about A/C problems, it could be due to the fuse being blown; I haven't checked it yet, but will soon). I also noticed that while I'm driving, even though I don't have the A/C on or if I just have the fan on, I could feel the cold air coming out at the vents! My guess was that the A/C was leaking, but I didn't think it was serious. However, this morning, with both the A/C and the fan off, the cold air was coming out the vents and condensing on the vents. This really scares me. Is A/C leaking a serious problem? Could it cause serious damage if not fix right away? I would appreciate it very much if anyone had a similar problem would post his/her opinions/fact/knowledge of it.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to find a reputable shop to fix it. Is this a general A/C problem that any decent Honda shop can fix it, or should I take the car to an NSX mechanic or shop?

Thanks in advance for all help. BTW, I have a 95 NSX-T automatic.

Sounds like your compressor is always on. I would find the best AC shop I could find, unless the dash needs to come out for whatever reason. You can probably get your CCU out yourself and send it to BrianK. Fix that first. It may be the reason your compressor's always engaged.

Remove the CCU and send to Brian. He's excellent with these things, honest, fast, and very reasonably priced. My ac did the same thing and it turned out to be a fault in the CCU. Brian fixed it.

Hi there

we have climate control unit on hand for just the repair so you wont have to deal with shipping, down time and having your nsx ripped up.

We can uninstall the climate control and have a replacement installed the same day.

What is the common part that leaks out?

The evaporator has radiator inside that gets cold. If the core leaks then is it because it is getting rusted or from moving around it rubs out a hole?

My A/C does not hold air and had the car on the lift several times searching with UV light for any leaks and can't find any. The last place must be the evaporator...

Any one actually find a visible hole?

I couldn't find anything on mine: no oil spots and nothing obvious. It may be that the tubing is just too porous to hold refrigerant. There was quite the mess around the external o-rings, but my sniffer was getting hits all along the bottom of the evap core inside the box.

I replaced ONLY the evap and my system has yet to lose any charge in about six months since I completed the job. FYI: It is quite a job to replace it too.

The evap appears to be made quite well, but it could have been made a lot simpler with less extreme bends.

BTW, I found a post that stated an NSX mechanic could remove the blower motor in about ten minutes and see if the dye is leaking from the evaporator.

Mine had a slow leak at first and after a year, dye showed up at the drain plug. Then it accelerated to 1.5 days to leak, and now I am getting a new evaporator.
