95 - 02 Coupes

OK so it seems if you add headers to the 3.0L coupe then you are almost on par with the 3.2L Targa performance. I see no reason to even swap out the engine then.
You save money buy getting a 91-94 coupe, add headers, lower ratio gears and maybe a 6 speed swap then you good to go?
Bingo!

My point was if you applied the engine / tranny swap money to a turbo kit on a NA1 coupe, you would be WAY ahead of the game in terms of performance / cost.

(Perry, a $45K C6Z06 would be very tempting ;^)

Funny you mention the Spoon NSX-R. I will be in japan in less than a year from now and my short lived fantasy that started this thread in the first place was my desire to bring back a JDM NSX Coupe back as the ultimate souvenir. But with how its been pretty much established that importing one is damn near impossible I'm really on the fence here with these rare coupes... wouldn't happen to know something I don't on importing...

Also, what were the specs on your old S?

I have a 07 Silverstone with the red/black interior and Ive seen a BB CR in Vegas, love the wing...

The Spoon NSX-R has become my new dream car:biggrin: Basically the real deal and it would be brand new. All the fine points of the NSX-R that just can't be added to our cars plus it's a coupe. Good dream as I'd take an 02+ coupe from there as it's seems that should actually be doable for importing. The NSX-R was never certified but I've seen regular NSXs brought over as they meet the same crash standards as all the NSXs that were sold here.

My 2006 is/was the same spec as your 07. I'd tried the homemade CR thing and it's not even close to the real deal. That said if the NSX-R changes the NSX the way the CR does the S2K then the Spoon is really seeming to be worth the money to me. I can't say enough good stuff about the CR! It's so good that my NSX got kicked off track duty!

Don't drive it if your happy with your current S2000 as you won't be after driving a CR. Speaking of the wing both it and the front spoiler look so much better in person than pics can relay. Not ricey at all unless of course you consider the GT3 spoiler ricey

LOL What's worse Brian is some people are asking less than $40k for an 06:redface:

Cause finding one of these 21 manuals out there is looking as logistically improbable as importing a JDM NSX. :frown:

Sgt. Pepper, just take your time and wait for the right 97-01 coupe or Zanardi to come around. It will be worth the wait.

Zanardi #26

The suggestions I put up were merely to engage thoughts on what some options would be.

Say you have around $50k to spend I'd be nabbing one of the hot deals on a +02 Targa let me tell you.

I guess if you are keen and set on a coupe save for one of these coupes and wait it out till you find one. Otherwise I think the Targa is the way to go.

I have my top off everyday!

First things first, flaminio you easily have one of the most amusing avatars I've ever seen.

That being said, The NSX's you're referring to, where they brought over as track cars? And where anything done to them to make them street legal? I got really curious about the Spoon NSX-R that you were talking about and Im a little confused... Are they brand new limited NSX's or are they strictly Type R conversions for USDM models? Regardless of what they are how much!?

Spoon may be a little over hyped sometimes, imo but the prospect of a Type R here in the us is too tempting not to ask.

I believe they were street. I don't know any specifics ,but I'll look and see what I can find.

Spoon will be making a formal announcement at the 09 Tokyo Auto salon and give specifics there. Info they've given so far is that they have from Honda some NSX-R chassis and they will be building NSX-R GT's for people. I'm waiting to find out if they will build just regular NSX-R's as I don't want the NSX-R GT body work , or the turbo. They have also said they'll do conversions for people who already own NSXs as well. I'm not interested in a conversion for my current car as I want a coupe. They listed colors as white , black, red and blue. Be interesting if the cars will be built here or in Japan by Spoon. Price according to Sports compact car is supposed to start around $135k but that's for the NSX-R GT I imagine a NSX-R should be a bit cheaper. I already have my dream NSX-R specs in my head and keep thinking about it before I go to bed at night ..LOL Pathetic!

NO... NOT Pathetic!

This car is what dreams are made of! I cant wait just to own one!

When is the Tokyo Auto Salon btw? Cause I'm going to be going to japan in the very near future for work.

LOL Thanks! Jan 9-11th. The 9th is only for press though. If you can make it please take pics!

Haha, damn... there is no way I can get there that fast. I wont be shipping out till around the fall. :( Need the time to brush up on my Japanese. But by that time I'll be able to go ask Spoon HQ about stuff like this myself. I'm really anxious to find out about these Type R conversions. I think everything happens for a reason, or at least all events can be reasonably explained. I just hope that with this unexpected turn of events that all these years of NSX-lessness I might find myself the owner of a shiny new Type R!

I also second the desire for a standard Type R. The GT is a bit too much for me and I want an NA car, as it was meant to be.

Just read about the NSX R GT that Spoon is set to produce in a few magazines. Sounds like the price is gonna run closer to 150K for an NA car and 160/165k for the Turbocharged car thats being featured in all the magazines. No word on how much a Type R conversion job will be though. Guess we'll have to wait till the next Tokyo Auto Salon. I'm hoping a conversion will be a more feasible option.

Same here also the prices are for the NSX-R GT since they're being sourced from Honda I'm betting the front and rear bumpers plus vents/hood scoops are a pretty penny so an NSX-R w/o all that stuff should hopefully be less expensive maybe not too much but hey every bit counts:biggrin:

I don't know if I'd do the conversion as the coupe would have more rigidity. Plus they swap out so much stuff including the NSX-R engine that I'd like to know if we get a credit for our old stuff or what.

Both good points. I hope a regular Type R is a little cheaper. The GT is a little bit over the top for me. I mean, worst case scenario; I buy those parts and add them onto the car later. The only thing I am worried about is how limited this cars production will be. Collectors will be sure to snatch them up in a hurry so I'm saving every last penny I have for one of these right now. I cant wait to get to Japan and talk to the fine folks at spoon in person about one of these. The only thing I wish it came with... flip up headlights

Eh worst case scenario would actually be getting the parts and then trying to sell them because everyone would be telling you how much they could get the aftermarket parts for ..LOL

You know the collector bit never crossed my mind as so few have taken the NSX seriously. Hell we have people now saying it's not an exotic or a super car just because it's numbers have been surpassed.

GOD I hope that holds true... MORE FOR ME. But would you go with the Spoon enhancements or just keep it a clean Type R?

Clean Type R ..but if you twisted my arm I'd take the Spoon monoblock calipers

Well from what I read in some magazines the things spoon has done to the car make it unreal in the corners.

Yeah supposedly foot to the floor means crazy traction and lift means

Rummaging through the internet I'm growing increasingly confused as to what Spoon actually plans on doing as far as conversions and building cars from scratch. Is there a thread here on the NSX Prime forums following the NSX R GT? Because I couldn't find one in search. :frown:

Wow I never noticed that they didnt make coupes past 96. I drive top down all the time in my s2000. Is using the targa top compare to riding topless in the s2k. I was also interested in geting a coupe. But if the targa is some what close to topless ill take a targa
