2013 Acura RLX | 2013 Honda Legend

'05-'08 front + '09-'12 rear = me happy

Not to threadcrap too much, but you might be the only one[,] looking at the sales figures in recent years...
Well duh, North America doesn't get the JDM/Euro front-fascia... gosh! :D

North American RL sales #'s are indicative of (3) things...

- not V8 RWD (along w/ the finite niche market-segment I mentioned in my previous post)

- Power Plenum styling of front fascia (again, wtf-bbq)

- bloated MSRP (though noticeably reduced w/ incentives/discounting)

Nice table-insertion in your post, btw. Very neat!

The body shape is silimar to the GS and head light copied from the LS ...

I had a 98 and 07 RL before, and I was hoping for more on this complete redesign but is disappointed as usual.

Can they hire someone from Audi to design their cars?

Too much gs in there. Is it really that hard for Acura to design a 5 passenger car?

I was completely ready to trade in my 05 TL in 09 for the all wheel drive 4g TL, then they released the design.... 4 years later and they still haven't come close earning my $$$.

Can't wait to see how they butcher the MDX. If that happens, Honda will be the only manufacturer that doesn't produce a single vehicle that excites me. Wow.

I also have a 3rd Gen TL, had it in to Acura for timing belt service and they gave me a 12 TL SH-AWD to play with overnight- it also happened to sleet really badly overnight and i had to drive in that to the office the next day. I'll tell you what, that car's performance is spot on. Lots of power, and SH-AWD was really impressive in the slippery stuff. I also really liked the interior. Really solid driving car and an improvement over my 04 in every way (8 years of progress counts for something) EXCEPT the exterior styling. Blech.

If only I didn't have to look at the outside of it... Hideous.

I watched the video a couple more times. I think the look is not bad, it can grow on you. The frontal look is quite nice, and looks like it has a double stack navigation/control screens. Overall looks more sporty than the current model. 4 wheel steering is nice, and the MPG is great for car this size.

I always thought the styling of Honda is hit and miss, but they never failed to deliver the enjoyment of driving.

I have been putting on some miles on my NSX as the weather is getting better and I can never get over just how much fun that car is to drive, even today.

What Acura really need to do is something outrageous, and produce a car with massive power like the German counterparts. They really should consider a seven with the same power train as the the next NSX with HP range around 500 and sell it under $70K and I bet the car will simply fly out of the showroom.

With that, they may be able to keep the price of the new NSX down by sharing drivetrain.

The new TSX drives boring and the turbo in the RDX is just ... no torque and erratic.

The most interesting part is the 370 hp figure for their new V6. That is considerably higher and it bodes well for the new NSX. They should be easily able to extract more than 400 hp in an more sports tuned version.

Actually, it now appears that the 370 hp figure is for the hybrid and the non-hybrid figure is 310 hp. So, no big deal here. Meh.

I agree on all accounts. I test drove one as I really wanted AWD (not crazy about 2005+ RL, though I think they look better then this thing). It drove great, tech package was much improved over my 05 and the SH-AWD was as good as was hoping.

With all that said exterior styling is at least 50% of the equation. I will never buy a car that I don't find visually intriguing, no matter how great it is.

Edmunds posted a inside line article comparing 2010 Tl to 08 Audi S4, and a BMW 335 (both i and xi). Cant find the article but did find snippets. The TL was actually rated # 1, but I can't begin to explain how much more I'd prefer to own an s4 or 335 (and the included maintinence problems) over the TL. Acura design is lost...

"1st Place: While the 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD 6MT might not have the horsepower to keep up on the straight with any of these other sport sedans, it works best by far in the corners and made up time over its competition in speed at the apex and at the exit. At nearly every corner, the SH-AWD was so astute and intelligent that you could literally slap the go pedal to the carpet and let the all-wheel drive sort out how best to put the power to good use. And yes, these optional 245/40ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires (the largest and stickiest of any of the tires in the entire group) really help, but it was in combination with the SH-AWD where the rubber really made a difference. This car carves the corners.

second place was 2008 Audi S4 - edited out of article I found, sorry.

3rd Place: The BMW 335i maintains its composure even when driven extremely hard, yet it feels surprisingly slow and out of place compared to the TL and S4. Of course, putting power down with just the rear wheels means the front wheels almost needed to be straight before the throttle could go all the way to the floor. The throttle response from its twin-turbo 300-hp inline-6 is only happy and snappy in the upper rpm range, and the steering feels indirect and slow in comparison. Great brakes, but this wasn't enough to make up the 2.7-second gap to the TL. It's just too slow to react.

4th Place: Hoping the BMW 335xi's all-wheel drive would allow the 3 Series to put its 300 hp to better use, we discovered that it only further snubbed the responses of the sedan. The steering became less direct, the throttle response grew worse and the understeer became more pronounced. The added weight of the car was obvious, especially in a high-speed corner with an apex at the crest of a hill."

i think acura needs to push much harder to revive the brand... it looked very standard current gen-acura to me. imho of course.

I guess I'm one of the few that actually like the car. I've been looking forward to the new RL for awhile and think they did a great job. I'm not a fan of the color inside or out, but there will obviously be other choices. I'm sure the wheels won't make it to production either.

RLX does not put me off. Actually, having watched the video i kind of like it- definitely need to go with an optional wheel, but otherwise it's pretty nice.

I'm looking forward to their next go at the TL. I've really tried, but I just don't like the current car. Of course, since i only buy pre-owned I know Acura isn't designing for me, but it makes me sad that my next car could be that much further away.

I imagine a CPO MDX is going to replace my current TL when the time comes. I like the current MDX quite a bit, and I just can't bear to leave Acura quality, and service. I've been treated too well, for too long to leave.

It's funny... I liked the first RL. I thought it looked nice. Clean lines. Each RL iteration thereafter went down hill. The new RLX is better but... I do think the driving dynamics of the RLX will be great, however.

Do you mean the 96-98 RL? I had a 98 RL before and I liked it.

Here's a review of the 2011 Acura RL which is quite handsome once the look grows on you. It's a large Accord but if you can get a good deal why not get it since a fully loaded Accord with navigation will cost close to $34K.

You know, lose those hideous wheels and the beak and it's not horrible. The only RL that I've ever really liked was the '05-08 and I wasn't crazy enough about it to ditch my Legend.

In fact, I've always said the biggest problem with the RL is the name and the fact that now, it's underpowered. Had they left it "Legend" in '96 and continued to make a Coupe version, the sales wouldn't have gone to shit and they could have continued to evolve the car. But nooooo.....

I've been telling the factory guys from Acura for years to bring back the name. I've told them bluntley that it doesn't matter that every luxury brand in the U.S. uses an alpha-numeric name on their cars. Everyone knows the name "Legend" and they should bring it back. I've told them to use a cool marketing campain that says something like, "The Legend returns!"

People would come in all of the time to look at a TL or MDX and they've never heard of the RL or have never seen one on the street. Even people who haven't bought an Acura for a long time have very fond memories of their Legend. Or people who have never bought an Acura have a friend or neighbor that owned a Legend and know all about it.

I've never understood why they killed the name. You can't pay for the kind of marketing that the Legend name still brings to the brand.

Nice commercial but the Honda / Acura designs of today are still so-so in my mind. I did like the part around 1:40. I recognized that Integra tailight.

I had the same look when I would drive around and see an NSX.

Thought for what it's worth if that RLX drove by my reaction would be more like. "Meh" nice and shiny, but it doesn't get my blood pumping like the NSX did, or heck even the Integra GS-R's....
