2007 Mustang GT Vs. 1991 NSX

I have always likened these races to 'what difference does it make' type of thing.
You are putting a 16 MY old car against practically a brand new car.
You win, ok, you just beat a Mustang...great:rolleyes: you are going to be so proud.
You lose, you just got beat by a Mustang..you are going to be so embarassed:confused:.....you will now have to start coming up with excuses as to why you did...and never hear the end of it...
Just be content with what you have and leave the outcome to the imagination.

Did I say I was in a closed race course?

When that happened with the Prius, my attention focused from beating the Mustang to driving behind the Prius with both of my HID high beam and HID PIAA driving light on.

That prius was lite up inside the cabin. I was on the driver side mirror. It tried to accelerate from me to get away.

Sorry, but a Prius is like a single prop plane versus a F16..... ur not going to get away.

That continued for 5 miles.

the mustang guy wanted to give the Prius some words too by getting on the passenger side mirrors with the high beam.

LOL  That's hilarious!

People that drive hybrids from my experience are not very mindful of the diverse speeds. they spend more time looking at the gauges and monitoring the MPG while they drift into a fast lane.

No shit huh! Maybe his mirror hit a bug and made him shift lanes

Lets take it easy, huh? I drive a hybrid maybe 40% of the time (girlfriend's car) and I don't drive like an idiot and I am very mindful of other drivers around me. There is at least one other NSX owner here that drives a Prius. Lets not condemn everyone that is behind a hybrid. If you are going to complain about driving, lets not forget who is racing on a public highway. I'm not getting on your case about it, but please understand that the Prius driver you are so angry at probably thinks YOU are the one that is driving like an idiot.

I'm local too. if you would like another comparison w/ an nsx w/ H/I/E and short gears, please let me know. Tell him I wont even put my chip on yet.

I've certainly killed i mean killed an 07 STI from 0 to 110. From 80 and on I RAN away from the STI. We did this 4x and each time same outsome. me about 5 car lengths away. With the short gearing the nsx is very strong from 40 up on 2nd gear.

Seriously, let me know when this is because I will try to make this event... Local Group Meet?

Hybrids and slow cars need to stay outta the #1 lane and one lane over from the slow lane so that NSX owners can accelerate, merge and move onto the fast lane to hit sub-sonic speeds.

huh, i have headers, exhaust and test pipes on my 91 and i got smoked by an STI a few weeks ago. We didn't take it over 100 mph but ran them from zero to about 90 mph and he was at least 2 car lengths ahead of me both times we did it. I doubt he was stock (i know he had exhaust at least) but he took off so much faster than me that it wasn't even close. I pulled a little at the end but i suspect we would have had to take it over 120+ for me to catch or pass him. My car does have heavy 18/19's on it but i wouldn't go looking for street light to street light races with STI's in an na NSX. You must have raced a slow one or your short gears must REALLY make a huge difference because i dyno tested my motor when it was still stock and it tested right at about what it would when it was new.

It's ur wheels.....

The AWD shouldn't be as much of a factor with roll-on acceleration. If the guy in the STI knows how to launch (and I sure don't in the NSX, don't want to abuse the clutch learning), then stoplight races against one might not be a good idea.

It's the AWD and the closer gearing (they can't even get to 60mph without going to 3rd). Your wheels probably didn't help the matter, but was probably less of a factor.

Indeed. I believe the STi needs to shift into 5th to run the quarter mile. But 0-30 MPH, they will put a hurting on a lot of otherwise faster cars.

Paul, dont do it! Especially if you know him. I got spanked by a WS6 a few months ago, 40 to 90 only, and I thank my lucky stars it was with a guy I didn't know. My friends think my car is god because of how it looks. Performance doesn't even cross their minds, with a little help from me. If a Mustang beat me I would never live it down. Straight line is all he has, don't give it to him. Remember, he is still driving a POS. Just be happy rolling around in an amazing example of automotive engineering. Until you visit LoveFab, no racing.

Thats basically my experience with racing in the NSX.

The last car i used to race in was a modified TT Supra and i got decidedly different results back then.
Now i usually just let everyone around me rev and take off while i pull away slowly in my NSX looking much cooler.
Now if no one else is around, i might give them a go of it.

i have 17/18 Work wheels (old school) which are pretty light. I've driven other NSXs w/out short gears and I just feel a whole different w/ my 2nd and 3rd gearing. It just seems alot faster. The one thing that added a big diff was my the Cantrell headers. I really really felt the acceleration diff with these headers. Starting from about 60 and on. The car just pulls much much harder than before w/ just the I/E. The funny thing is that the STI driver had seen me when I went to the bank one day, where he worked. He was really surprised how I pulled on him. Of course he was stock. I have a friend who has a Stage 2 one and I have not seen the diff yet. We will go on a closed track to see how much faster it is.

Really? I destroyed my buddy's WS6 a few years ago. From a dig too. Short though, like 1/8 mile.

He was the street racing type. For me, it was the first time I ever raced anyone in a car I owned of any worth.

Based on the difference in acceleration between the two cars I would also agree that the STi was probably not stock. And as other have noted, the STi/EVO are very, very quick from 0-30 and can appear brutally fast 0-60 if the STi driver knows how to launch. Who knows--hp is so cheap in those things you never know what you're racing.

My car is stock except Cantrell headers, test pipes and Comptech exhaust. I didn't notice much increase when i did the entire exhaust system but i also went 18/19 at the same time so i guess they canceled each other out. Im on the hunt for a nice set of 17/18 Volks and maybe a CTSC down the road.

This guy could lose control of his car and bang yours up.

At this point if it were me, I'd tell him "you scared the crap out of me when you said adding JUST a header would make your car as fast as a Carrera GT!!!. I don't want to race anymore". If he has any street sense, he will get the drift that you are being sarcastic, and then there is no need to race anymore.

This morning I was driving up a freeway on ramp and I saw a silver 2002-2004 GT mustang with black Le Mans racing strips (tacky) coming up on me fast. I remembered this posting and wanted find out what would happen, so I started accelerating harder in 2nd gear and into 3rd gear. I noticed I was already pulling away and I was only in 3rd gear. I started to get off the gas due to the heavy traffic level. After I blended in with traffic I let the guy drive off like a maniac. My NSX is modified but I will assume his mustang was modified, since he did have the nerve to put Le Mans strips on his car.

I still think the mustang is junk. I just sold my mustang since the exhaust manifold exploded. Although a guy in red Ford GT smoked my Honda Fit later in the afternoon, so not all fords are junk.
