Fresno CA, just finished building their new ACURA Dealership and had a small gathering of "company" folks. Two of the men their were from out of state and asked me some questions on my NSX ownership. I asked them about the next NSX and they said that they don't know much about a new "NSX" but that they have upcoming news on a new Acura two door sports car. I told them I heard of a more affordable NSX type car on Prime and they quickly said that it will be nothing like the NSX but it will have a V6 with 280hp but lighter. They said it will not look like an NSX or an S2000, and that it will be more like an aggresive S2000 that could possible outdo the NSX in the numbers game. They mentioned the pricing would be between an S2000 and an NSX... That should be interesting....

I don't believe anything dealers say. When the HSC was introduced, my local Acura dealer said then never even heard of an HSC (or Prime).

I don't believe it either. But, it does make sense to make a car between the two. However, if it was lighter and get 280HP, it would most likely outperform the NSX. At that point I would assume they will discontinue the NSX. :(

Dealers....... I once asked a salesman the year after the new Civic Hatch came out, if the CTR was coming (rumors) He said "what's a CTR?" I said "Civic Type R" He said along with another salesman "Whats a Civic Type-R?" I said "you know like the Integra!" They had no clue what a CTR or ITR was. Bottom line, the employees at ALL dealerships know less than us (the enthusiasts), and it will ALWAYS be that way PERIOD.

I agree. Dealers don't know anything. I remember arguing with members on prime on this fact. How they put a deposit for a 2005 HSC, or how another member told me that 2004 is definitely the last year for the NSX because a dealer told him so.

that's because they don't have the time to learn the product they're selling. Most of these "parking lot greeters" change dealerships every few months... they don't meet their quotas, they're out !

The only reason I was taking some credence to what they were saying is because at this little gathering, the two gentlemen that were doing much of the talking were the two outsiders that called themselves company consultants who help new Acura/Honda establishments in the US. They brought in a 2004 Imola NSX in the showroom and were the ones who struck a conversation once they landed eyes on my '03 NSX. They just seemed to know what they were talking about. The actual Fresno dealers just stood there and listened…. But, who knows, they might be wrong I guess… Just thought I'd share…

For years I have felt that the NSX was a Ferrari in performance and a Honda in usability/reliability at 1/2 the price and the only problem with that - from a exotic car sales and marketing perspective - is it was the answer to a question that few people were asking.

People that have 73+ thousand to spend on a 2 seat car (in general) can probably afford a Ferrari too and are are very much in it for the ego. Rarely do you here people at an exclusive country club bragging about their Acura IMO.

So - years ago - I predicted that Acura would go after their more obtainable competition in the 2 seat (or even 2+2) arena - namely the 911, Corvette, M3, C Class AMG, etc. To do this you need to be in the 50k range not the low to mid 70k range.

Also - don't bag on all dealers. Some do know what they are talking about. Several years ago several of us heard from a man who owned a Ferrari and Acura dealership (in the family) and said that they had a memo from Honda saying they wanted to be the "Green" company and would not develop a 8 Cly car as they felt they could get the power they needed from a 6 cly and that would do for the life expectancy of the internal combustion engine. We had no reason not to believe him and here we are 2 years later with the new RL coming out and guess what - no V8 and none in sight for the NSX replacement as well.

Don't believe everything you hear but I wouldn't believe nothing either. Some of these guys are enthusiasts and owners.

Add me to the I don't believe it list. When I see the picture with the press release, I will being to believe, when I see one at a dealership, I will believe.
Until then, I love our NSX!

Agreed, I don't belive honda president will slap his own face by saying "Next NSX will beat Ferrari" and nothing shows up.

email sent

For the record I do believe there will be another sports car in the Acura lineup.

I am not certain and personaly doubt that it will be a NSX replacement, that it will list for $80+ k, or it will have anything but another similar V6.

Maybe it is all wishfull thinking as I don't want to wait 6-7 years to afford one!

Isn't guessing fun!?

Honda has already (in public) committed to a next-generation NSX.

Yet another 2dr sports car would always be welcome.

I've quickly learned dealers know (atleast the ones I've talked to) don't know crap about future models except what is known to the public.

My friend was looking into a new Celica, and we went to the dealer, and talked to a dude who was all hyped-up on the Celica. He showed us some site online where the Celica was coming out with a convertible version real soon... and new pics of "The next Supra" well I recognized the 'supra' pics ... they were like 4 yrs old from a car magazine that was a rendering from their own artists.

I just laughed.

BTW, no celica converible is coming out, because the model line is done after '05. So he got it wrong...just a little :)

I don't listen to dealers. I guess just wait patiently for some news from Honda about a replacement...

Well, the one thing that doesn't make any sense would be making a sports car with less than 300 hp since the new RL will have 300 hp and all wheel drive. I would hope the new sports car would have at least new SH-AWD and 300hp! Maybe even share the RL platform?!

Whatever happened to the statement," there will be no rival." ?

I find it hard to believe that honda would develop and build that HSC prototype with nothing to follow. What was the last concept car from honda that didnt devlop into a production car. I remember the CL concept car at the detroit autoshow--and it later arrived. that Honda pickup truck is still supposed to be launched, no? Honda just doent seem like the kind of company that just develops Prototypes for the hell of it.

The SH-AWD weighs a pretty good amount. I wouldn't think they would add it to a sports car. But, Lambo does, so maybe they will. Never know.

You all may recall a couple of years ago when there was talk of Acura making an NSX replacement that cost about $55,000. Of course, we have also all heard about the HSC class car costing a super exotic $150,000. Why not consider that BOTH may be true!?

What if Acura built a super secret category killer that was 2,800 lbs and was a killer car in its own right and a steal at $55,000. That car could provide the kind of compromises that many wanna-be NSX owners might consider if the car wasn't an "NSX". I know that making the car simple, small and light with the same 300hp RL powerplant would be a killer car!

Then, imagine that the new cheaper sibling buys Honda 2 more years to further develop the HSC. Then it can see how the FORD GT and other $150,000 exotic cars do in the marketplace and then launch the new "NSX". Keep in mind that the Ford GT is now sold out of its production run for the first 2 years. I would imagine that Honda would like to be able to do the same with the new NSX replacement... especially at $150,000 each! :)

The 05 RL weighs about 100 pounds lmore than the old FWD model. Some lighter body panels help eliminate the weight of the SH-AWD drivetrain, so perhaps there is some hope for a relatively light, AWD car, although there is not much fat to cut from the current NSX body.

I agree. I'm still sticking to the theory that they will release a $50k car, stop production of the NSX for 2 or 3 years and then introduce a completely knew car that will be the Ferrari fighter or what have you.

I would rather talk about my souped up ACURA at the country club than discuss a souped up FORD!!!
I do think Acura can compete in this Arena with the right hardware!!!!!!
Build a 2600 lb 500 hp car and price it at 150k. It would have to
get respect and desire from every car enthusiest. Price it at 100 k and
get out of the way!

Two years ago the General Manager at my local Acura dealer called me to tell me about the new NSX coming out.
He said it was only as a coupe with 270hp and a 5 speed transmission.
I asked him where he got this info from and he said a new book from Acura that just came in. It was the black and silver one we all know, that came out wtih the first gen NSX. He did not know that the NSX now had 290 hp and 6 speed in a T-version. Acura dealers are not a font of knowledge.
