Hello all, I just figured I would share briefly my encounter with a late model Porsche 996 and a BMW M series Z3. Being that this was my first encounter with anything on the road, since I got my new NSX, I am very excited! As i'm traveling down the road I see this late model 996 (non turbo) in a hurry to catch up with me, and luckily the stop light ahead turns yellow

There is a car ahead of him so I roll out and wait for him to pull beside me. I wait for him to jump and we go from a 2nd gear roll, I immediately pull about 2 car lengths or so on him through 2nd and into 3rd, and it seems that he has had enough.

Little did i know that an unsuspecting Z3 M series was coming behind us. He slows and and I slow and we end up going from about a 60 roll to about 100, again my little Acura managed to put well over to car lengths on him, even after giving him the jump! And this was without the NOS!(bottle was empty) What an awsome car! My mods are Comptech headers, exhaust, ECU, RM NOS and intake, and RM clutch. Thanks guys for letting me share and sorry to be so long winded. Happy NSXing!

I love racing my wife's M Coupe. She's faster off the line though....torque

Shortly after selling my 1.9 Z3, I test drove the M Z3 and boy what a car! It can move! and stop! Brakes were awesome. But ended up buying the NSX.

No, better launch technique. Properly launched, the NSX can accelerate faster. (Don't forget to turn off TCS.)

As for torque, that's not all that matters in determining acceleration. For an explanation, check out the thread about "smoked Cobra". There are recipes at the end of the article.

You'll get faster acceleration by starting out in first gear and taking it all the way to redline (around 40 mph with the stock gearing).

I doubt the 996 owner was pushing it. I own both an 3.0L NSX Coupe and a 996 Carrera 2, and trust me... the Porsche will give most any NSX (even one with headers, exhaust, etc) a serious run for its money.

I would have to agree with that also. They guy in the 996 had his wife with him so I'm sure the car had more than that. I am a huge Porsche fan, and I have driven a 2000 996, and yes they are very fast.
