I am assuming Ken at Factor X is the author, so Ken, greetings and glad you took my post with the humor intended ...... and I agree with you, once one feels the rush of FI there is no returning back ;)

My kudos for Factor X in taking time and responding to the various posts above.

Regarding the FI discussion at NSXPO, let me assure you and the forum readers that four organizers/mediators tried everything possible for at least two months to make it happen in an open forum with a Q/A. Bottom line was, some vendors would not sit on the same table with other vendors; and some vendors would not tolerate questions whose only purpose is a silly and deliberately instigating a war among vendors. And since we are not in a police state, managing such individuals would have been a major task - whereas in forums such as this, you can delete their posts or ban them for a week. The end result/format was not ideal but all vendors were there with their goodies, and owners had an opportunity to discuss their FI products.

I hope all will concur that there is room for all types of FI and vendors, and to each his own ........ all the way from A-Z too!

Hrant - FI challenged for now .... :D

I am one of these NA purists, and that's exactly the reason I respectfully took a rain check when Mickey offered me a ride in the FX car last month. I just didn't want to add a ~$10k dent in my $1K for-the-week budget :D

I too feel as though I am in that boat. I don't really think I mock FI guys rather envy the ones who have got a system they are happy with and get to enjoy the benefits of it.

I drove the FactorX monster!

I flew from Hawaii to the Factor X shoot out and I'm so glad that I did. Although I didn't get to see other turbo systems for a side-by-side comparison, I did get to learn so much about Factor X and their systems. I was totally impressed!

I got to talk to the techs and to the owners of Factor X. Watching Mike program the AEM during 6 or so dyno runs showed how much he could do with tuning as the runs progressively showed higher HP and torque. Although I was half asleep from flying all night and don't remember the exact beginning horsepower, I believe the 590 HP produced on the last run was about 50 HP higher than the starting point! And that was in the afternoon heat in Vegas of 100 degrees plus! What an increase!

I bought my '94 NSX last summer with the intention of adding a turbo system. I've built and raced a turbo car for many years and am a retired Formula 2000 road racer. I've always dreamed of dirving my formula car on the street (or one with the same power to weight ratio). I never thought that dream could be turned into a reality until I rode in the Factor X car down the quarter mile.

What a ride!!! It was scarey fast... even for me. Acceleration in second gear was so startling that I felt dizzy as my senses tried in vain to process the amazing G forces in acceleration.

On my second ride, Mike got a racer bike to line up with us. The bike beat the NSX by 1/10 th of a second (due to my added weight and my not following Mike's instructions to jump out of the car as he shifted into 4th gear!!!)

Just before the track closed, Mike asked me if I'd like to drive. OF COURSE I DID!!!! I jumped into the car and threw on my helmet and didn't even have to attatch the chin strap when I was up. I did one quick burnout and was surprised how easily the rear tires lit up without giving much throttle. (I later was told that the traction control was turned off.) I staged the car knowing that I'd better baby this car or else! I launced the car easy and was very gentle with her as I went through 4 gears finishing with a time of 11.9 seconds. The car could have gone much faster if I had a little experience driving it and knew its characteristics. None the less, It was a thrill of a lifetime to do a 11.9 in a NSX that I didn't even know!

Being a very conservative person and analytical at that, I've been researching NSX's and turbocharging them for over a year. I've been waiting for someone to develop a system that I had confidence in. Being in Hawaii makes dependability and longivity a primary concern for me. I am naturally a skeptical person when I hear people make incredible claims about what they get their NSX's to do. My trip to Vegas gave me the knowledge and confidence that I needed.

I was so impressed with Factor X and their car that I decided that it is no longer necessary for me to wait for my dream car. Life is too short. I decided to have my car turboed by Factor X. Rather than shipping my '94 to Vegas and back, I decided to buy the cleanest '94 I could find. This car is going to be a "keeper". I've been watching the market and knew of a car in Nebraska that is a showroom stock "virgin" with only 28,000 miles. So I flew with my son to Omaha to check out the car and I bought it on the sopt. We drove it for 25 hours non-stop to the Factor X shop in Vegas. My intention was to give it the FX 400 treatment with boost to start at 1,800 RPM. Now I'm tempted to have a full build done to include a 3.2 liter low compression motor. I don't need to go crazy with HP so a conservative 500RHP would be fine for me.

By the way, while I was waiting to get into the drag race, I was interviewed by a reporter for Spike TV. He was amazed that I would fly from Hawaii with my son to see a drag race in Vegas. Later after doing ride down the quarter mile, he interviewed me again. It appears that Spice TV will be doing a program on the transformatiion of my new 100% stock "virgin" NSX by Factor X.

I would appreciate any imput, comments, etc. from NSX owners and especially ones with FI experience. Do you think I should do the complete 3.2 liter FX 500 build or just stick with the stock motor and keep the HP limited to 400HP?

I'll keep posting updates as my car progresses and I decide which way to go. If anyone wants to ask questions feel free to PM me or just post a reply. I'll be happy to share my insights and experience with you.

For now, I need to get some sleep. Check back for progress reports......

Aloha Everyone,
Steve

To me a real shootout would be to get all the manufacturer demo cars together and get a volunteer pro driver to take them each out for an hour or so with timing equipment.

And some comments from the driver, handling, brakes, power suitability etc It would make for an entertaining read/ FAQS inclusion.

Do the words tunnel vision come to mind? ;)

Get your Pineapple bobble-head figurines while they last. :D

Aloha Everyone,

Steve,

If you are going to do it, go all the way. I think you will be glad you did. I got a ride in the FX500 detuned to 400 RHWP and it was fast, but not mindblowing like you are talking about. I think you will be dissapointed.

You have already spent all the effort in finding a car for the job and then driving 25  hours!

Go all the way. I think you will regret it if you don't.

ajnsx, I really didn't drive the car much to get to know it but here's my impressions from the limited driving that I did. (I only got to drive the car a few feet up to the starting line before running the quarter mile.) The clutch felt like a racing clutch and engaged very quickly. Dynoed at 590 RHP, the rear tires lit up like the car was sitting on a block of butter even with partial throttle. Upon launching the car, the rear end wanted to come around to the right, but it was easy to catch it without letting off the throttle....it just took a little of steering correction as I eased on more throttle. By the time I realized that I as on full throttle in first gear, the engine was up to 7,000 RPM and although Mike told me to go ahead and use the full 8,200 RPM, I shifted at 7,000 into second gear and gave it ful throttle. That's when all hell broke loose and the tires really hooked up. The car catapulted me ahead with such amazing acceleration that I felt dizzy and disoriented. I shifted into third at 7,000 RPM and at approx. 6,500 I shifted into fourth. My time was 11.921 seconds with a trap speed of 123.70.

At that point I think my mind was in sensory overload because it took me a few seconds to realize that I'd better start getting on the breaks hard if I wanted to get onto the exit road. (Or maybe I was too busy just enjoying the silly grin that I was having after doing a run like that!)

I really did baby the car and know that it can (and wanted to) go much faster.

My son got the run on digital video. It shows how quickly the Factor X NSX ran away from the competitior from the start! I need to buy a cord and solicit his help to down load it to this thread. I'll work on that tomorrow.

donwon...I don't have a wife to disagree, so.... no problem there!
