1991 Barn Find 2974 mile JH4NA1157MT000843

I wonder why the guy would park a car (that's 1 year old) and then LEAVE IT in the corner forever. Just doesn't seem logical.

when I inspected the car, determined the trans # is J4A4-1001315

...that number is not in snap ring range, should be good to go

(The snap ring failure is limited to transmission numbers J4A4-1003542 through J4A4-1005978. )

Thanks.

I feel so guilty chatting with you, knowing that she could have been yours. It's kind of weird... like running into your girlfriend's first boyfriend, who never got past second.

Great find!
Yes, the previous owner must have painted it, as it does not come from the factory that way.

great story on this car good job op ...hopefully when im ready for an nsx ill be able to find a barn find like this lol probably very rare case indeed

Great find, I hope that you decide to keep it as this will probably turn into one of those "I wish I had never sold my NSX" Stories that we so often hear about on Prime. Super clean car and I say while I would love to see the car stay as pristine as it is, I also know I can't bare the thought of the poor car going from one florescent prison to another. DRIVE THE CAR PLEASE AND LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

There. I. Said. It.

wow curry in scarsdale is right down the street from me.

Amazing find, nice!!

Don't feel too bad! Red Wings took my baby (2000 red/tan) from its stable and I have been jealous ever since!

Thanks.

Yes great find and I'm glad it will be restored and driven!

My '98 has a similar but different story... 9 years in "Storage" on display in a Honda dealership. Long story short is it was the personal car of the dealership owner and kept on display in his showroom and used occasionally for "test drives". 9 years and 3400k's... I've just clocked 12,000km's now.

I know what you mean about the "new car smell" as well! The only thing I can put down as evidence of it sitting for so long was the gas struts. Both the trunk and engine hatch struts needed re-gassing.

Well it certainly isn't me! There's a handful of NSX's here in Dubai and one abandoned yellow NA1.

I lived in Dubai for a few years during the construction of the Burj Dubai and I couldn't find one!? I thought about importing one but knew I wasn't going to be there long enough to make it worthwhile...

Just like Jetpilot said
...don't feel guilty at all...
you're the one who bought it.
Others had the chance and didn't so...

Indeed, I had several chances to close the deal with Don on the 1991 and in the end it worked out better for me to buy Rob's extremely nice 2000, and I'm very happy with the car and the prior owner's care and feeding.

If I had the spare funds at the time, I would have bought both cars.

She is being treated well by another Primer and thats was the intent of my original post sometime ago

(ps. I taught your girlfriend to do that one thing you like...)

...The car still smells new inside! Really, it has that weird Japanese New Car leather smell. There isn't a nick, scratch or ding anywhere. I walked around the car, with Don warning me not to touch it until he'd been paid in full. He was afraid that if you wiped the dust, it would scratch the car. It still had the coat of Zimol on it that he'd applied in 1992...

Two things:

1.) I know that 'weird Japanese' new car smell. The '94 Legend I had a sold last year with 20k original miles still smelled new like that. :)

2.) When you say that it still had the same coat of Zymol from 1992...do you mean it was applied in 1992 and NEVER removed??

Interesting these "barn finds" are now showing up at the 20 year mark. For a very low production car, there seem to be many. another '91 on the Canadian Forum with less than 1000 miles.(1500kms)

I seem to remember another with even less mileage.

What a waste of warranty!

NSX is coming "Home" on Monday. I'll get plenty of good pics.

The car is unbelievable and just a real beauty. Restoration turned out to be little more than a major service with a couple of exceptions.

Also, in response to questions above, we painted the calipers. I'd seen this done on other cars and like the look.

One interesting mechanical talking point.... We found the front brake lines had "collapsed". I guess it had to do with some sort of breakdown of the fluids inside.

The whole thing about this car is its originality. I'm sorry, I really love your car but I think painting the calipers red is like throwing paint on the Mona Lisa because you think she'd look better as a blonde. There is no way I would ever do that to this car and I am pretty certain if others voice their opinion here, most will be in agreement with me. Painting calipers on a modd'ed, non-original, non-91, non-low milage car with multiple owners is one thing, painting calipers on such an orginal car is another.

Turbo is so right! Painting the calipers red - damn man - good thing that is easily reversed - geez. This whole thing about this car is kind of a bummer thread. The guy that had this car in the family talked to us for a long while now somebody buys it and is posting all about it like it's something new to us and it's all about resale I mean there is just something that bugs me about that. The guy that should have bought this car ought to be the one that is fulfilling a dream - not trying to pump it up and figure on the resale.....sorry but this is kind of a turkey post in my book.

BTW - this is not sour grapes - it's all about being a real collector - this car comes along once and should go to someone that wants to keep the car and be the preserver of the car - not paint the calipers red and re sell it. I know it's not my car - and I don't have to read this post but I couldn't take it any longer and just had to say something. Others may not care but I have a feeling that there are some on here that feel exactly like I do about this deal!
