1000HP K20 NSX Build-Street Car

I would take that battery tender device off the Shorai battery ASAP. you need to use the Shorai brand battery charger specifically designed for their batteries. Several people have killed their batteries prematurely doing what you're doing....

I checked with Shorai and they even said that it wouldn't cause an issue if you charge the battery with another charger BUT they obviously recommend theres as it is a smart charger with some advanced features.

I appreciate your concern but I'm not sure if I will have a problem or not. I'm using a specific lithium battery tender charger which charges at a much lower rate than a normal battery tender.

Reason: Not because I didn't want to use the Shorai charger but because I found a specific battery tender which uses the same battery tender plug as several other cars of mine so it was convenient and all the battery tender charges will work in any of my cars if I was in a pinch even if not ideal.

I may buy a shorai charger if needed but yet to be seen yet. FYI: Shorai battery works in my buddies Maserati Gran Turismo pretty good so far.

Nice, my favorite build so far when it comes to power plant/drivetrain build, pure awesomeness filled with high quality parts! Great job.

Thank you! I'm very excited to finish it and get it on the road driving with some hard miles. Besides drivetrain project stuff, I'm waiting on Downforce for a months now to make some more parts for me.

I like this thread. It does however take away some pride from the original NSX power plant as to kicking ass in everything in it's class. But it is very well thought out. Still though, at the end of the day, it is no longer an NSX. Would I do all this work to an NSX platform, NO. But I cannot bypass respect to those who do. Very well done... Looking forward to more updates.

I respect your opinion but it is definitely still an NSX if you ask me. Everything inside is still stock except the gauge setup. The only thing different is the busted v6 I bought it with is gone with something more potent and lighter that was developed by Honda later on. I would have kept the v6 that had a supercharger on it around 400hp happily but that didn't work out lol.

First let me say that you did a marvelous job sir. How does the engine feel and sound though? Just curious here. Can you post a video? Does it sound like a civic? Or a monster vtec? I want to see more!

Sounds like a giant whistling noise from the turbo and vtec is just mad! The exhaust is I guess 1ft long so that changes a lot and sounds coo. This was on the old intake setup at 630hp to the wheels while tuning so it might be a bit different when the car turned up much more, I just couldnt find a video of those runs.

are you going to compete in sanctioned 1/4 mile , and if so what class? or just for fun bragging rights

this is really impressive, love to see what it could do set up on a track and not just the strip

Everything is being powdercoated block or painted black. Some bigger sway bars and type R lower control arm going on here. Then we painted the battery tray black as well.

Not sure. I'll definitely drive it on the 1/4 mile track and the road course when I'm done. It may or may not be competitive on the road course as things would need to be changed such as alignment, and rear tires.

How much would it cost me, from the shop u went threw to make me some motor/trans mount ?
Waste of time, you would be better off finding a company to do this from scratch. This is not an easy project for some to just get mounts. complicated if you want a race car and almost insane if you want a street car like this one.

This is awesome. Someone where local has I think a k20 swap. I'm hoping to check it out someday.

There is another guy named Brandon in your area somewhere. His is similar but much more stripped out then mine. Great guy and I heard he has a super street article coming out soon. He has struggled with issues as much as mine. Mine was running fine earlier this year before his but then I got crazy and it's been delays after delays for me.

Yeah I actually reached out to Brandon. He's about 1.5 hours away but in a direction I pass every once and a while. I'm going to try and swing by and check it out sometime.

His car is literally like 2200 or something around there. I can't even imagine.

Haven't updated this in a while. A lot has happened and the journey never goes as planned. AEM V2 was exchanged for a AEM infinity with more control and during loading software, it failed and AEM dropped the ball for about 2 months before they reprogrammed it and sent it back to the shop to get fixed. All kinds of relays and inputs and switches were added for the sequential gearbox which is now super fast! The faster you shift or slow you shift will change how it cuts the gear change.

Air conditioner is working with the AEM and is super custom considering its half NSX and half K20 stuff. I picked up the car yesterday at TD AUTOWERKES which I can't say enough about Angel and Damian who worked on almost all of the car. Here is a lot of the photos that I haven't added yet. I'll be adding more photos and videos as I drive it but for now on the way home about 1 hour, it was a wild fire breathing race car drive!

Can't see all the prettyness from up top, black powder coating was a great touch!

285/40/18 Mickey Thompson Drag Radials on a 18x9.5" wheel as they were on 18x10.5" before but now with less than -1 camber, it fits totally different. Really crazy actually. This fits great but I wasn't expecting an offset that brought the wheel IN by a lot mixed with positive camber and 1" narrow wheel, is now closer than ever but clears the fender.

Seems like a lot going on back here and that is the truth! Fuel pumps, fuel filter, fuel surge tank, ice water tank, water pump, etc.. Still room for a little luggage, and all the weight is in a good 50/50 position.

OEM GM Flex fuel sensor setup with Black AN fittings- Use 93 octane up to E98 fuel without having to change anything.

ALL IN FAB Intake manifold by Derek. 8 injector ID1700 which is flex fuel friendly and leaves lots of room for well over 1000hp.

Dyno chart on E85 without max reving it and a bit short on boost somewhere around 32psi I believe. We went up to 930hp around 34-35psi but stopped for now. End goal was around 1000-1050hp to the wheels but will probably address a couple things later to push farther. Still over 1000hp to the engine isn't bad.

Engine Bay shot that is mostly done, still a couple things left but man it is a clean functional engine bay now.

I've been lurking the forums for a long time and this thread forced me to come out of hiding and actually create an account so I could comment.

I've been in contact with Brandon and getting some information from him about potentially doing this exact thing and I must say, your car looks incredible. The attention to detail and the quality of the build is amazing. You've built the exact setup I want except your power levels are way beyond what I would reasonably want. Keep up the good work and I look forward to updates.

You have an IG by chance?

Welcome to nsxprime! I spoke with Brandon over the weekend, good guy. Andrew in your area has a MR2 with a K20 swap in it and he is also someone with IMMENSE experience. We all talk to each other and I find its been helping us get a better car in the end! Thank you for the compliments. I would do a spreadsheet to see if it makes sense, it is not cheap or easy. It can be done faster now but you may end up with a car that costs a lot more than you expect.

Soundeffects,

Awesome car! I can appreciate all the time and effort that you've put into this.

I'm curious what you do for work, or what your education is in?

Thank you sir. Still have a long ways to go but it's fun now that it drives really good!

I use to work a Honda race shop 17 years ago for a bit and I've always worked on all my own cars. I'm no one special, especially on this car since I had TD Autowerks finish up all the important stuff. It definitely helps to learn everything about the cars I own though so I know what the end goal is and how everything works so I when it's not working right, I catch it very quickly.
