Yes, worked w/ Gary and was pleased. They did basic maintanence, nothing out of the ordinary. IIRC, from years ago on Prime, one of the dealers in Milwaukee had a tech who specialized in forced induction/ motor builds/ etc.
the drive-train is pretty bullet-proof on the Elise/Exige, even w/ (modest-boost) FI. The problem has been w/ suspension components, especially rear toe-link failures (some of which have been catastrophic). I think this is ironic in a car that is marketed as a hard-core sports and track...
small world Motegi,
the red one you speak of was either my old one (had it from '99 to '04) or a dentist who has had his since '91. He is the one and only owner of that car and it is a bone stock red over black coupe. AFAIK, he still has it.
Later, brotha,
Jim:biggrin:
any smell at all? lot of stop and go traffic? I'm assuming no standing starts.
the aftermarket clutch on my high mile '04 was very grabby and smelled so I knew it was on it's way out. The new oem clutch is like butter (too soft actually).
Re: They always come back...anyone know this NSX I'm considering?
exactly. assume that these items will all need to be done and get an estimate. then, deduct this amount from your offer. i spent $3100 for new clutch, timing belt, water pump, plugs, transmission and motor oil change FWIW.
Quad Cities. Windy City is a small, specialty dealer and as such you have to be very well educated about the marque you are interested in and run a car-fax. I am and I did and everything checked out OK. The business end of things went smoothly. I bought the car knowing it would need work...
update: picked up the car Saturday after it's 100 K service and clutch replacement. New set of Kumho's ordered. The previous owner had an after-market clutch that was much heavier but was getting very worn and w/ notchy engagement (was smelling too). The oem clutch is much lighter. Car...
Agreed! this is true in other special interest marques like Lotus. seems like the only cars that are holding their pre-global-economic-crisis are numbers-matching muscle cars and rare early Ferraris and pre-war cars.
I bet the ad is legit.
what's your username over there? I had briefly considered the Evora as well when the '04 NSX I bought showed up. It will be alot more user-friendly as a DD than the Elise/Exige. It will be in a very similar niche as the NSX: 300 hp, 3000 lbs, ME V6, except w/ 2 tiny jump seats in the back...
I'm probably in the minority here but I honestly don't have any desire to own a Ferrari. It's not that I don't love the way they look and sound and drive (drove a 360 once, years ago). It's just that I'm not a Ferrai guy and I couldn't stand having that much $$ tied up in a single vehicle. I...
Easy, the people I met owning it. Tight-knit community of enthusiasts. Still chat on line w/ many and see a few of them at track-days, meets, etc.
As far as the car goes: the sound, mine was de-catted w/ Arqray exhaust and CAI. Sounded like a big sport bike w/ open exhaust in the second...
this same discussion is going on at lotustalk and probably several other car forums right now. I totally agree w/ PhiAlpha. There are a bunch of us silverbacks on every one of these forums that have been there. NSX (or Elise, or Gallardo, or....) will end up being a bigger PITA in for a...
