Weakestlink, The Masi doesnt need a engine out to complete major service..making it sig. cheaper to maintain then a 'normal' F-car. (most use belts..which need to be changed every 15k miles or 4-5 years)

Because Ferrari sets prices on many parts....even if they are more or less identical to another car's... ...that is why it is often cheaper to buy from the OEM direct then through a f-dealer.

Ask on www.Ferrarichat.com under 'other italians'. There are a number of threads there concerning this car in general as well. Reliablity is not horrid, but still laughable compared to a NSX. Great cars though, IMO.

Despite being part of Fiat, Ferrari does indeed develop the majority of its own parts and such, save FI, which it has specially developed with Bosch. But the others you mention they do indeed make themselves...the only things they take of the fiat line are items to keep costs low, like often...

If anything though you would want to have the electric power steering or a variable power steering so you don't get 'too much' assist at higher speeds...dangerous thought. Best idea is to live with it, unless you have to parrellel park on hills in tiny spaces. :D
