How to remove door sill emblems?

How do I remove the plates from the black plastic trim? It seems like the plastic pins are riveted into the black trim.

The other side of the R plate has two prongs. Seems like you'll have to carefully cut away at the rivet.

You can see that the part holding the rivet is centrally split into 6 sections. You have to pry those up and away from the peg somehow, either with a very sharp pick, razor blade, etc. then you can remove the plate.
