Z06 vs NSX supercharged

Len might recall this; At our local track we have a Dynapack dyno in the paddock. During HPDE events you can slap a few bucks down and get a dyno. During a Porsche event, a Z06 w/headers & exhaust went on the dyno and the best he could muster was 336 rwhp.

Yep, I remember. I also remember a Mallet 550 pkg or whatever, Dynoed at 360 at the rear wheels after dropping almost 60K WTF, He didn't like it when I pulled up on his bumper either.

After my little roll today, just messing around at no more than 6K, I am kinda leary of turning up the boost. Only 500 more miles to B-day... OoooHhhh SOOOooo Wicked!!!

I am curious as to why a 550 Mallet would dyno so low? I though they were blazing fast?

Maybe it's due to the fact that they peak at 550, not sustain it. Maybe it is a number for conversation only. Maybe it's just BS. They are fast, just not blazing.
The pro charged car that was in the One Lap of america, was pretty quick, but it was the ringer to entice buyers into the fold.
550, that is the rating at the crank. I don't frequent the C5 registry, but maybe you could find a few dyno sheets.
I speculate that it is just as the Hennesey Vipers ratings, the ones that had people ready to Find him at all costs.

The Mallets are ok (NSX's can hang no prob), but the DRM C5's haul ass! (Doug Rippie Motorsports) http://www.dougrippie.com/ They run a 11.7 @ 121mph with a 200mph top speed, so they are not the quickest drag car, but on a road course, they are almost unbeatable! They hold the lap record for a C5 (all combo's) at Road America in all of the club events that I have timed (I didn't miss any events ), and there were only a few cars of other makes that beat it. (GT3, F360) If you see a DRM sticker on the side, BEWARE.

The ZO6 Mallet lists 475bhp, and a 11.99 @ 117mph with a 179mph top speed, so the DRM car is faster. http://www.mallettcars.com/conversions/hammer.php

I believe the video that was floating around with the modded DSM racing the red vette, was a DRM car. It left the modded DSM standing still once it hooked up.

Of course, if someone put the $$$ and time as you're talking with the Factor X or others on one of these new naturally aspirated Z06s...

You would still have the equivilent to the mallet and the Rippies. And it costs 2x as much. My friend's and his Father's bill were both over 30K. So they were much more expensive to do, with much less in return.

With all this talk about NSX vs Z06, makes me wonder why bother. I would rather drive an under powered NSX (as compared to the Z06) than a vette. The NSX is a very refined engineering marvel (even by today's standards) where as the vette is just a vette, cheesy and cheaply made. Everyone has one and there is nothing awe inspiring about the vette's styling.

I wouldn't say the C5 is cheasy, maybe cheaply made but not really cheasy. lol. And as for inspiring, sure, it's no nsx when it comes to body lines, but it still has a sexy sleek look to it whether people are biased to it or not. I personally like corvettes, but would never choose one over a nsx. They were my second choice though.

oops, i meant cheesy.

under 70 grand!

It'll be well over a year before the price comes down to $70K on a C6 Z06. I saw a C6 automatic convertible this weekend and the asking price was $73K!!

I bet the Z06s will be $90K-$100K after the "market adjustment"

I got to spend a bit of time in a Z06 at the track last week. Look, I could care less about marques, i.e., I'm far from a "Honda guy," but there is no way I would want a Z06 over my NSX. The thing felt like a fat pig in comparison. Brakes had almost no feel, steering - total disconnect with the pavement. Yea, I know all about how the Z06 performs on the track, but how it feels while doing so is a different story. TQ, it has. Nothing a CTSC can't take care of.

As far as the Hp/weight ratios go. The peak hp # of a supercharged NSX is pretty much just a #. In reality, the usable power curve is pretty anemic. In addition to that, the harder and longer the car is run, the hotter the intake temps get(unless properly cooled...)... loss of more power. On that note... you never know the circumstances under which some tests were performed. Then you add the torque that comes with displacement... And there you go, there are a lot of cars that are still faster. So as far as I see it, everyone should just go turbo;). Then we will all have cars that can hang(if not tear up) everything on the road:).
